Agreed. I read the books and saw the BBC versions. While it appears that the book is almost entirely there, everything is so rushed and unexplained, but nothing happens. For instance, they mention Christmas never happens only once before they introduce Father Christmas (and they dont' even address him by his name). Then there is Aslam and the Prophesy which almost seem like asides throughout the movie until they actually reach the camp. Really, it seemed like everything was rushed through so that there could be an epic LotR battle at the end . . . and a pointless WWII battle at the begining.

you can't compare the LOTR books against this one movie when talking about "creating a detailed world" or whatever.. its a series of books, read them and discover the entire world he created, its way more than narnia

I hate to say it, but I thought the movie sucked. I really wanted this to be good. Years ago, when I first found out it was being made, I was excited. Then I saw 'Disney' was involved and started worrying. I know the series was much more a childrens' series than Lord of the Rings, but they didnt need to treat it that way. I felt the land scapes were very boring, very bland, and unimaginative. The director did a horrible job in developing what motivated the characters... this includes all the characters. You never really got to see in the film why the various protagonists or antagonists were doing what they were doing. The acting of the children was 'acceptable'. I thought the score was also not really good. The film was way too bright and happy. I swear, could it really have been much worse?

geez, i forgot how lame the story was

and i remembered all the christian analogies, but seriously, that's the whole point of the story. if it was just PART of the story, it'd be ok, but this story was written to make you feel warm and fuzzy about the savior dying and coming back for your sins

oh, and the sexual tension between the fawn and lucy REALLY creaped me out. was that intentional? near the end, when they're at the castle and they hold hands, if they'd been teenage humans they would have started dry humping

^^That's all found in the first chronological book. That's part of the problem with making movies out of order. There are two schools of thought about the way the books should be read. I side with the chronologial camp. It just makes things a lot clearer.

Movie made no sense. Kids did nothing to help the war or stop the witch. They were made kings/queens for no damn reason. Lion coming back to life was a bunch of random nonsense.

The only reason I didn't walk out of the movie is because I put a big World of Warcraft filter over my eyes.

I'm not quite sure how many of you read the books as a youth, but i definitely did and still have all of the copies (LWW, Prince Caspian, Voyage of the Dawn Treader.......The Last Battle) even though they are quite dusty by now. The one thing in the movie I noticed missing that was critically important in the understanding the history of Narnia and the reason why the Witch had to be killed was the whole aspect of "Black Magic". The magic that was "deeper and more powerful than the witch even knew".

This Black magic, in the books at least, is the heart of Narnia and explained Aslans role in great detail as well as why he could come back form the dead and "the prophecy" of the 2 kings and 2 queens. They gave about 1 sentence for each of these ideas in the movie.

Movie:
(Aslan: I'm back from the dead! Rooooooooooar!

Kids: OMG! How did you do it?

Aslan: Black Magic. It's crazy. Y'all wouldn't understand.

Kids: Oh ok, good to see you!)

There were many pages in the book that explained this as well as the plight of secondary characters, such as the ones that were turned to stone in the Queens courtyard. It was like a character development, but more than that it provided meaningful detail to the history of events that would ultimately lead to the kid's taking the throne and Aslans return form the dead.

I still loved the movie even though it wasn't absolutely the best at explaining all aspects of the books. The Chronicles of Narnia have been my favorite books since I was 9 years old and I reread them all the time, so I just enjoyed the movie because I love the books so much. My grandmother went with me and, not having read the books herself, didn't think it was that great.

I'd see it again.
