Why dont you come and find out what you're calling "pick and choose" Christianity?"

So the website is not a reflection of the organization, then? Nice marketing.

Its not really an "organization" thats putting it on, but a group of students. There really is no agenda behind it other than giving students a chance to discuss and think about things. The speaker is willing to answer anything even the topics that most people avoid.

If there's no agenda, there's really no reason for it. Clearly, there IS one. Christians already have a moral / ethical guide. It's called the Bible. I'm not going to waste my time listening to some post-modern, moral-relativist pontificate. The Bible doesn't require updated interpretations. It's all there. Don't try to water down the moral absolutes and still call it Christianity.

So I have to drive out to Meredith to talk about religion, with no structure, no goal, and no direction?

I can do that at home. Like, with my friends.

Years ago, Christians used the Bible to justify slavery. Before that, Christians used the Bible to say the earth is flat. Later, out of reinterpretation, we found flaws in these beliefs. I'm willing to admit that we still don't have it all figured out today. I'm willing to admit there are still more perspectives. I'm not saying that the people at this event will have it all figured out. It's more of an event to spark a desire to find out more. Find out what else Christianity, or Christ rather, has to offer other than some of the things the church is promoting today.

This event is not challenging the core doctrine of the Christian protestant faith. It's an event to get people thinking and challenging culturally presented ideas. Come, take it in, and spit it out if you like, but at least chew on it for awhile. It doesn't hurt to listen and ask.

Someone really wise once said "...questions are so central to faith. A question by its very nature acknowledges that the person asking the question does not have all of the answers. And because the person does not have all the answers, they are looking outside of themselves for guidance."

From Genesis 19:

Quote :
" 30 Lot and his two daughters left Zoar and settled in the mountains, for he was afraid to stay in Zoar. He and his two daughters lived in a cave. 31 One day the older daughter said to the younger, "Our father is old, and there is no man around here to lie with us, as is the custom all over the earth. 32 Let's get our father to drink wine and then lie with him and preserve our family line through our father."

33 That night they got their father to drink wine, and the older daughter went in and lay with him. He was not aware of it when she lay down or when she got up.

34 The next day the older daughter said to the younger, "Last night I lay with my father. Let's get him to drink wine again tonight, and you go in and lie with him so we can preserve our family line through our father." 35 So they got their father to drink wine that night also, and the younger daughter went and lay with him. Again he was not aware of it when she lay down or when she got up.

36 So both of Lot's daughters became pregnant by their father. 37 The older daughter had a son, and she named him Moab [g] ; he is the father of the Moabites of today. 38 The younger daughter also had a son, and she named him Ben-Ammi [h] ; he is the father of the Ammonites of today."

Yep, that sounds like the bible belt to me.

and how does that pertain to getting drunk and impregnating your daughter? I'm willing to bet their children were just as retarded.

I'm pretty sure the point of the unbuckle event is to show people that the stereotyped image people have of the bible belt is incorrect or no longer applies. I posted that passage as proof that the bible belt pretty much has the religion down pat. Also, for comedic effect. I mean, when I think of some parts of the bible belt, I think of people living in caves having sex with family members.

It is possible to have a different interpretation than others. People who study the Bible their whole lives change their interpretations several times.

some people believe the Bible doesn't need interpretation at all

people who read the Bible in English and stop there aren't really getting it all, so in my opinion, the Bible needs interpretation by the individual.

^^ The translation had to do with Moses being permanently physically "changed" when he interacted with God. They thought the change was growing horns. Michelangelo's statue of Moses has them.

Moses had a speech impediment, so his brother did all of his talking for him.

Uh-huh, and when exactly did this happen? Specific historical references, please.

So because it happens in the Bible, it means the Bible says it's ok?

Did that ad really have to be an animated GIF? It's very annoying and further fuels my dislike of this organization.
