bump what innova said. "Go to Roblyn Jewelers"
I just bought one from them a couple weeks ago. They are a family owned business and all the guys that work there are cool. You don't have to worry about getting ripped off when working with these guys. In addition, if you order off the net you better know what you are doing.
Get something that is certified by AGS or GIA. Like the other people are saying there is more to consider than the stats you posted on the princess cut you are interested in. 12/29/2005 4:29:28 PM |

Try Gina at Diamonds direct, once you know what you want. they will get the stones in, but you have to know what you want. size, cut, color, clarity, setting. I almost got my wife her ring there, but got a better deal from a small dealer in Dunn who has since gone out of business 12/30/2005 10:17:41 PM |

goto Chinatown, but hire a translator. It'd half the US prices from what I remember. Downside, you gotta go to Chinatown (NYC). If for some odd reason you are in NYC check it out. 12/31/2005 12:36:11 AM |

Blue Nile all the way.
I wouldn't buy a ring in America from someone whose language I don't understand.

I'll throw out another nomination for Jareds. We shopped there and a couple of other places in Charlotte, including Diamonds Direct. I liked Jareds sales approach and felt comfortable with them. They weren't overly pushy and the sales lady we had was informative. When we went to Diamonds Direct, I gave the guy my price range, $5-6k. He then pulled out a $10ct 3ct diamond ring and had my fiance try it on before he pulled out rings in my price range. Pissed me off. Ended up going back to Jareds and getting a nice princess cut solitaire 1.25ct diamond platinum ring. I took my fiance with me and let her pick it out...its going to be on her finger for the rest of her life. Never looked online. Just felt weird buying something like that online, but to each their own. The platinum still looks great. She could take it in every week to get polished if she wanted at no charge. They will also buy the diamond back at the same price we paid for it at anytime. Not that we would upgrade, but we could if we wanted to down the road.

My husband bought online because at the time we were about 5,000 miles away from each other. He wanted to buy me what I liked, and online we could both look at stuff at the same time. My wedding band is from Blue Nile, too. 12/31/2005 5:07:53 PM |

I bought a book at barnes and nobles, How to buy a diamond. The man that wrote it is a long time dealer and it tells you all the tricks of the trade. I bought mine at the local independent place back home, it was a store that had been there forever. I picked out the stone I wanted from the loose ones ( and they had a fuckload more to choose from than jared did, they came out in envelopes and I sorted through about 20 of a particular size) , then picked the mount and came back a few days later. He matched Blueniles price and sized it for free.
That book was the best $20 I could have spent. 1/2/2006 10:23:34 AM |

I have another vote for Jared's. My fiance and I went to a lot of stores, and the quality of the stones and the level of customer service was the best at Jared's. 1/2/2006 12:27:31 PM |

My engagement ring was bought at Jareds and we were so pleased we got our bands there too. The thing I like about them is the extended service plan. Usually I don't buy these but its worth it for the rings. It covers for life: resizing of the ring, rebending (ok I bent mine somehow), replacement of a lost diamond, and many other things. There are no cost on any of these. The only thing you have to do is get your prongs checked every 6 months for them to insure your diamonds. Since I got my engagement ring I've gotten my prongs tightened, my ring unbent, and about to get it resized, so the plan has already paid for itself.
Also for a lot of mens rings there are patterns/engravings. You can't resize a patterned ring except maybe slightly. At Jareds they will order you a knew one for no charge with this plan.
