ok maybe Navy is not as bad as they were...but still...they're not exactly a powerhouse...whens the last time Navy beat Notre Dame? In the last 30 years?

theres a lot of stupid posts in this thread so i wont bother sorting through them...

did ND have a great year? absolutely...its all relative people. the outlook was very bleak at the beginning of the year (hell corso went on record predicting an 0-6 start). If you had offered me 7-4 at the start of the year, I would have taken it in a heartbeat.

the talent just wasnt there...i was arguing with someone in another thread who claimed ND's defense was solid, which just simply isnt the case. There is no talent on that side of the ball (thanks to one of the worst coaches and THE worst recruiter in school history). The offense had big time question marks too. I was sure darius walker would be great based on what was shown last year. Quinn had been terribly inconsistent over his first 2 years...he played phenomenally this year (i wonder what caused the improvement...hmm). Then theres the recievers...nobody had heard of the shark before this year and look what happened. Then theres stovall who went from probably deserving to not even make the team to having a phenomenal year.

did ND have a great compared to usc or texas? no, and who would have expected them to
did ND have a great year based on what could have been reasonably expected? definitely

with the recruiting class coming in likely to be #2 or #3 in the nation, im sure things will only get better

well according to the BCS they did

if they had beaten ohio state would you be asking that question?

besides they automatically qualified so i dont see the point

I think Oregon should have had the chance to take on OSU.

Not saying that Oregon is better than ND, but Oregon didnt lay an egg to MSU, ND did.

keep in mind michigan state was a top 20 team at that point

and it could have very easily gone either way

we all know the bcs is about money...nobody wants to watch oregon-ohio state. its just as simple as that!

love it or hate it, you all live in america, so you should be used to this by now

If you don't win the National Championship then all that matters is what the general perception of your program was. ND has a very, very positive perception for various reasons so they will have the benefit of a top notch season regardless of whether or not it actually was by the numbers. Its not much different than how it worked for us our Gator Bowl year. We finished 4th in the conference and beat a weaker ND team but there was the perception/feeling that we were much better than that so it stuck.

its a shame we (ncst) could never build on what was truly a big win

College Football is all about money too, and Notre Dame had a great year because of the cashflow

[Edited on January 4, 2006 at 3:39 PM. Reason : had NC State made $14-17 mil for playing in the Meineke bowl, it would be a great year for us too]

of course the dickshits had a great year, yes they had a pussy schedule and didnt deserve the BCS bid, but considering where they were and what people expected they had a great year

the fact that a number of teams crumbled immediately after playing ND is irrelevant

dont treat the games like they were all played on january 5th, look at the situation on the day each team was played (pitt, purdue, michigan state all ranked, michigan top 5, usc #1)

not to mention Tenn...its not our fault you fuckwads couldnt do a damn thing

if its a pussy schedule its because teams like Tenn cant get their shit together not because the AD scheduled shitty programs

joining a conference would help... its very rare that EVERY team in a conference is down every year.

for example... I will be the first to admit that TN had a horrible horrible season, worst by far since I have been around... they played HALF of their games against teams that were in the Top 10, HALF.

ND played what, 2? (USC and Michigan)

not every team plays half their games against top 10 teams

we were scheduled to play 3/11 which isnt bad, but only 2 were at the time (cough cough)

the conference argument is sooooooo played out, its not going to happen anytime in the near future...plus it allows us to schedule good teams from a variety of conferences. its simply not our fault if they dont pan out, and quite frankly, i dont care!

what the fuck does that matter? Oklahoma was top 5 when the season started. All that MSU being in the top 20 at that point in the season proves that preseason polls are based on NOTHING. That has nothing to do with ND getting beaten by a good team.

im pretty sure preseason polls are based on something, they aren't just at random

it doesnt take a rocket scientist to note a change in play by the spartans from the first 1/3 of the season to the last

ok, they are based on SOMETHING, but that something isn't on-field play. It's based largely on hype and conjecture.

well the game was 3 weeks into the season

but it really doesnt matter

michigan state looked great that day and a few others in the first 3rd of the season, i have no idea what happened to them, nor do i really care

the season is over

Notre Dame will probably take home more $ than USC or Texas.

So I don't see what the argument is about. Notre Dame had a great year.

it isn't about who they did or didn't beat, it's the fact that they were expected to play like shit and managed to pull off a winning season.

they beat Michigan, and thats it for relevant wins

maybe if those Irish pussies didnt cancel their home-and-home with the Wolfpack cause they were scared after we whooped their asses in the Gator Bowl then they would've taken another loss to State

when I went up there in 2000 or whenever it was I was disappointed.

All the ND fans were like "please beat us, we want Davie out of here, please kick our ass".

If we played Notre Dame at the beginning of this year, we would have gotten destroyed

If we played Notre Dame during the second part of this year, we probably could have kept at least within a touchdown or two
