First, this is not really an "opt-out" thing. You signed up for service, they just gave you the first month for free.
Quote : | "Again, I know what the current law is, I know what I signed up for. This is a debate on about whether corporations should be allowed to have this sort of construct. A free trial is clearly not a free trial if it requires additional action by the end user. A free trial should require addtional action at the end of the trial to continue the service." |
And we have given many good reasons why the current law is just: #1: Some people derive benefit from such offers, namely free service for one month #2: Your law would harm the far greater number of individuals who wish to keep the service but forget to notify the company they wish to opt-in #3: The unintended consequences of such open-ended laws are hard to judge and could be devastating for some members of society #4: A law to prevent such behavior would further complicate the minefield that companies must tread, another trip wire for ordinary Americans to trip over, landing them with fines and perhaps jail #5: freedom is good in its own right
Reasons why the current law is not just: #1: it hurt you personally #2: it harms some other people that forget

See, that's why it's a THIRTY DAY free trial, not a magical forever free trial where you never pay for anything and they also give you blowjobs.1/17/2006 11:32:19 AM |
