Really? Then why doesn't it "eat" the plastic coke bottle or metal coke can?

Wow, I just read this whole thing

Quote :
"Yes.... yes this is true

When you drink coke, it basicaly 'eats' away your body just like the nail. Its like an acid base reaction. If you leave coke on your skin, it actually slowly eats a hole thru it. If you dont believe me just try it. Just leave some coke on your skin and there will be a shallow hole soon. Coke 'eats' through nails, it also eats through your stomach. Many people have to have operations becuase they drink too much coke, and it destroys their internal organs.

But, ginger ale lacks teh coke property, becuase its color is different. Black product are dangerous. Its in the colorizers. In fact, its the blackness of the coke that makes it so caustic to nails and your body. But since ginger ale is clear, it doesnt have negative effects on anything.

This is all common sense.

I'd think you'd have enough fucking sense to not believe complete bullshit. I'd be wrong.

Also, you never told me why the coke doesn't eat through the container that it comes in.

This is covered in CH381, aluminum doesnt react with coke due to the energetic mismatch in their 2p(x) orbitals. You didnt know that?

No, I didn't. You know why I didn't? Because I got a C- in chem 101. Even still, I will bet you $1,000 that if I put an iron nail in a glass of coke for a week, it will not dissolve it. How about that?

So are you saying that if I put an iron nail in a glass of coke and let it sit for three days, it will dissolve?
If not, what is it that you're correct about?

the sodas don't own anything. soda is just a regular noun like any other that you add an S to pluralize. apostrophes are for possession.

Yet you both missed the other (and even more egregious) error. (Or you just ignored it.)

The Phosphric acid in coke is nowhere near strong enough to eat a nail. Ginger ale with real ginger, like Blenheim is good for nausea, (especially hangovers and motion sickness)

Don't you people watch Mythbusters?

Coke is more likely to cause problems b/c of the carbonation and caffeine. My husband's digestive system goes haywire if he drinks too much carbonation, or any caffeine.

Its the carbonation bubbles that eat through your skin also. The microbubbles can fit inbetween your pores.

caffeine can do that. it definitely has nothing to do with anything else in the coke, though that shit IS bad for you, especially since many people drink it instead of water or juice, and it doesn't replenish your mineral or water needs as water or juice would. Also, being a diuretic, it dehydrates you, counteracting alot of the water you're getting from it. Not to mention the oodles of fucking sugar/high fructose corn syrup, which is even worse than sugar.
http://www.webmd.com/content/Article/109/109250.htm

here's some info on what coke WILL do to your teeth
http://www.dentalgentlecare.com/diet_soda.htm

Pure Water 7.00 acidity (neutral) 0.0 sugar
Coke Classic 2.63 acidity (very) 9.3 tsp. sugar
BATTERY ACID 1.00 acidity 0.0 sugar (obviously)

The threshold pH for enamel dissolution is 5.5.
One can of regular pop per day contains the maximum recommended intake of sugar a day!

coke can eat thru just about every composite, it can even eat thru plastic. the only reason the bottles dont dissolve is becuase its treated with a special chemical.

gad he is fucking trolling you let it go

but anyway:

Quote :
"Many
of the entries above are just simple household tips involving Coca-Cola, as provided by Joey Green in his 1995 book Polish Your Furniture with Panty Hose and on his web site. That you can cook and clean with Coke is relatively meaningless from a safety standpoint — you can use a wide array of common household substances (including water) for the same purposes; that fact alone doesn't necessarily make them dangerous to ingest. Nearly all carbonated soft drinks contain carbonic acid, which is moderately useful for tasks such as removing stains and dissolving rust deposits (although plain soda water is much better for some of these purposes than Coca-Cola or other soft drinks, as it doesn't leave a sticky sugar residue behind). Carbonic acid is relatively weak, however, and people have been drinking carbonated water for many years with no detrimental effects.

The rest of the claims offered here are specious. Coca-Cola does contain small amounts of citric acid and phosphoric acid; however, all the insinuations about the dangers these acids might pose to people who drink Coca-Cola ignore a simple concept familiar to any first-year chemistry student: concentration. Coca-Cola contains less citric acid than orange juice does, and the concentration of phosphoric acid in Coke is far too small (a mere 11 to 13 grams per gallon of syrup, or about 0.20 to 0.30 per cent of the total formula) to dissolve a steak, a tooth, or a nail overnight. (Much of the item will dissolve eventually, but after a day or two you'll still have most of the tooth, a whole nail, and one very soggy t-bone.)

Besides, the gastric acid in your stomach is much stronger than any of the acids in Coca-Cola, so the Coca-Cola is harmless.

The next time you're stopped by a highway patrolman, try asking him if he's ever scrubbed blood stains off a highway with Coca-Cola (or anything else). If you're lucky, by the time he stops laughing he'll have forgotten about the citation he was going to give you. "

this is the most ridiculous thread I've ever read. I drank so much coke between the ages of 13 and now 20, that I think my teeth would be GONE if this shit were true. Sometimes I get ambitious and drink 3 or 4 in a day.

Moral of the story is BRUSH YOUR FUCKING TEETH

"Get a Tan?: Velma from Milwaukee writes; "I was in Mexico a couple of years ago and a lady saw me tanning outside the hotel and I just couldn't tan, she then said, " want a great tan"? Of course, " I said". She said buy some Coke, not diet coke, cherry coke or generic, just plain Coke and apply it over skin. Believe me, I did, and laid out for a while, I got up, and I had the best tan ever. It lasted for about 6-7 months. So, now I do it here in Milwaukee when it gets hot, I even use the coke in the tanning machines and it really works. And, no, bugs will not eat you. The coke dries in your skin and then your skin is silky. This is the best tanning lotion I have ever used." Thanks Velma! I can't wait to try this out myself!"

exactly. your stomach acid is ~2 molar hydrocholric acid and is a ph of 1 - same as battery acid.

one time i was drinking a coke and accidentally spilled some on my hand. a couple minutes later, it had burned my hand clean off. i had to go have a new one grafted on. no lie.

that's why you always see the police pouring 2L cokes all over crash sites. it eats up all the dead people.

^ exactly, I see it all the time. My mom works in a hospital and she'll come home all tore up because some careless mother left a glass of coke out that her baby was able to reach...It's really sad.

I can tell you a true story of how I almost died as a lil' one that involved coke. My dad's friend owned a body shop, and he had a coke bottle full of motor oil. I was about, I dunno, 2 or 3? And I reached for the bottle and almost had it tipped to my mouth when someone knocked it out of my hand.

also, when i was an infant, I almost choked on a mcdonalds french fry that my aunt gave me.

^^ you probably would have been better off drinking the motor oil rather than actual coke. i read in an email forward that coke has acid that eats through things while motor oil does not. this doesn't make any sense to me but i believe everything i read because it's easier than thinking.

french fries almost killed that guy who made that supersize me movie too. he went to the doctor at the beginning of the movie and again at the end. after eating all those fries and hamburgers he wasn't as flexible (he couldn't touch his toes anymore).
