although i will concede that our OCC losses last year to WVU and Washington seem a whole lot better this year than they did at the time last year 1/31/2006 1:45:21 AM |

i think that has become very apparent recently in the top 25, esp, in the top 10/15. let us not forget, there's still alot of season left, and 2 crucial tourneys in the near future. rankings dont mean shit now, grant it, its nice to be recognized on a national level. but when its all said and done, if we manage to have a successful run in the tourney (whatever that may be), a loss to seton hall midway through the season doesnt mean shit. we can only learn from the mistakes and hope that we got our bad game out of the way this early.
however, we will lose more games, thats a given. hopefully such losses will humble us going into the post season. being nationally ranked for so long can really destroy a team, with the constant pressure of having to live up to such standards. it takes so much work for a team like ours to get the credibility we have now, but it takes only a few close losses to immediately lose such recognition (temporarily)1/31/2006 4:22:25 AM |

As long as we beat UNC. I wrote off the loss to UNC earlier in the season because I thought that maybe they were not as deflated as everyone was saying they were. Now that they have lost to Miami, Virginia, and BC and almost lost to Florida State I wonder how we even lost to them the first go-round.
I'd like to see us beat UNC in at least one (popular) sports outing within a two/three year period. 1/31/2006 8:10:50 AM |

The ACC as a whole is down. College basketball as a whole is down at least a little. But if you watch this N.C. State team you know that's it's simply the best team we've fielded in quite a few years.
They play as a team. They don't lose every game in which our 3 point percentage < 20%. They do so many things that are usually uncharacteristic of NCSU basketball recently.
Other people, including the media, agree.
I just think that some people are so used to us not actually being a top 15 team that now that we actually are, they can't accept it.
We're hands down better at this point in the season than we were last year, not based on wins and losses solely, but based on how this team plays. And if we continue to play like we are so far this year, we'll be at a better point at the end of the season than last year's team also. 1/31/2006 9:27:19 AM |

going by wins/losses isnt the way to realize this team is better than last years team.
And we aren't better because we lost hodge
we are better because we got another year of experience under our freshmen. Ced has had a huge turn around. The current seniors have worked together to fill the hole that jules left, which enables our functioning as a team to flourish.
If you can't see how improved this years team is compared to last years team you just haven't watched us play. We still have some big things to work on, and a lot of it falls on herb. But to ignore the blatant improvement pretty much highlights how stupid you must be. 1/31/2006 9:35:47 AM |

who gives a shit if this team or last years team is better, last years season is over and this one is still going... and I could care less if the ACC or NCAA is having a down year, if we won an ACC championship or better yet a National Championship i'd be happy as fuck and people won't remember it as "oh thats the year the ACC was down" 1/31/2006 9:43:32 AM |

The ACC is down. But what that means compared to last year is that UNC, Wake, and GT are down. GT was streaky last year anyway, but they're seriously lacking experience this year. UNC is streaky this year, and definitely doesn't have the same level of talent. Wake is waaaay down, because Prosser is a joke.
On the other hand, Duke, Clemson and Virginia are better. FSU is missing Wafer, but overall is at about the same level. We were supposed to be down, but we're playing better than we did last year (seriously, can you find a good win we had during the regular season last year?).
There are things this team does better than last year's (thank god we finally got some developed post players), and there are things we don't do as well. But we're only halfway through conference play, with plenty of games and both tournaments left to go. When April comes, we'll be able to look back and say whether we're really better this year, but until then let's just keep enjoying the ride. 1/31/2006 9:45:14 AM |

Yea, the FSU and UVa home losses were also horrible last year, not to mention St. Johns and almost losing to Columbia. So yes, we are doing a whole lot better because we have limited our losses to inferior opponents. Just look at numbers 1 and 2, they both have a bad loss to an unranked team, hell duke should have 2 if it wasnt for a lucky halfcourt shot. And Seton Hall knocked off Cuse and got votes in this poll similar to Georgetown and Marquette. One bad loss is okay, we just cant let it happen again.
And we are a hell of a lot better this year than last, there isnt even a comparison. We made it to the sweet 16, but as a damn 10 seed.

People thought the same thing last year when we lost to a suppossedly Horrible West Virginia team. They went on and beat Wake to make the Sweet Sixteen. Seton Hall has clearly turned the corner. Winning at Syracuse is not easy even if the team isn't any good.1/31/2006 5:03:37 PM |

If a team loses to Santa Clara it's a good indication that they're going to suck.

Seton Hall is 37th in RPI according to collegerpi.com. Right ahead of UNC, and not far behind top 10 WVU and us. They are just terrible.
