Effect. I think the only time you have to use "The Excommunicant" in referring to someone is if they are vitand, meaning that they are excommunicated to such a degree that you cannot speak to them, have anything to do with them, or even mention their name in polite company. I don't think that form of excommunication has been pronounced for years.
(There may be an argument that Landrieu would be vitand, because her excommunication was pronounced by name, but the presumption is that they are not vitand unless it is absolutely clear.)2/2/2006 5:55:39 PM |
