the beatles, u2, star wars, and the lord of the rings aren't underrated at all

you could claim that they are overrated, but you can't make the claim that they're so underrated that they're overrated.

what we're talking about is movies, shows, and bands that appeal to a niche audience, cult classics, or small demographics, and are usually critically acclaimed, but never really watched by anyone but rabid fans. these fans overblow it and make it into something thats the best thing since tits... but when you finally watch it, it's just not that great. it's underrated, but it's overrated.

^x however many - pinkandblack, i probably have that same white stripes poster on the wall in my room too, it's like they tried too hard with the last album to be innovative, groundbreaking, so different that their brand of different would become 'cool' - in any case, it sucked

I know they're not underrated at all... but the first post in this thread merely specifies:

Quote :
"shows, movies, and bands that people give so much hype about

and when you see/hear them

you're like

meh...

"

Honestly, I don't quite understand what is meant by "so underrated it's overrated". In context, it seems to just be a sarcastic statement.

So basically this thread is "list things that have a niche following, and you don't fall in that niche"

Oookay.

"^^ I agree.

The Beatles are a good band... but it seems people only listen to them so that they can say they listen to them.

I'd also like to add...

Lord of the Rings
Star Wars"

like someone else said earlier, as wacky-worded as the topic was this isnt what hes going for. because what you posted is clearly what you think is overrated.

but PS i dont know anyone can say lord of the rings is overrated unless they were referring to the movies. but then again all that means is that one person didnt happen to like the movies/books so i guess thats understandable

I'lll get a lot of flak for this but... Quentin Tarantino.

Some people seem to worship him... I mean yes Pulp Fiction was some interesting story telling. He writes good dialog. But come on.

Oh, and Fight Club. Yes I have the DVD, yes I liked the movie.

The self-important quasi-philosophical babble gets annoying in any movie though. They started doing that shit in the Matrix sequels and it was annoying there too.

I definitely agree 100% with dane cook and clerks.

also, while I like quentin tarantino, he is definitely OVERRATED. He makes some good movies, but he's a formula director. Kevin Smith is another guy who is completely overrated and worshipped for no apparent reason.

but the office, arrrested developement, and office space are all classics. that's all there is to it.

^^I saw the first 2 or 3 epsiodes of the Office and it was god awful, did it all of a sudden get funny?

But yes, Dane Cook, while can be funny in certain situations, his stand up doesn't really impress me.

yeah, the office got better as it went along. I didn't think the first episodes were nearly as funny as the more recent ones.
