I just want to emphasize that a Ferrari 333 SP makes sounds that really don't compare to other engines. I'm not a fan of Ferrari engine tone, with the noted (get it? note-d...) exception of the 333. Carrera GT is quite nice also, but it's not that common in layout or actual specifications.

most of the lt1s have resonators on them thus sound like crap imho
but.. my friends 92 vette w/ heads cam intake and exhaust (headers to lack of mufflers @ the back) sounded glorious.

^^do you park in the reynolds deck? i think you probably have the only LT1 red formula here and it looks like your y-pipe hangs down rather low...

LT1's do sound good with a little twirkin'... check out the quick vids at the bottom of the page

I always loved the sound of the early '90s Chevy 5.7L. Even stock (or mostly stock) they have a low grumble that makes me turn my head.

^^ my y hangs down kinda low at one point but that is because i got the 3" off road pipe and if you look at the stocker it flattens at one point. its not really much of a problem though...my cutout will bottom out before the y pipe. if i lowered it, however, that would make for some problems.

they sure sound like it and i know the vette did i worked on... i dunno if it was stock but it had them
i guess cause that 1 to 2 flow master muffler seems to be the one of choice...

and only the ss trans am and formula firebirds had lt1s anyway the rest were just 350s right?

all f-body v8's from 93-97 were LT1's (z28, formula, t/a, 97 ss)...93 variants being speed density, 94+ moving to MAF...anybody know if the 93 vette was MAF or SD? they always get the new engine a year sooner, i just don't know if they made the switch then or not

the lt1 is a 350... every 93-97 f-body (z28, ss, trans am, firehawk, formula), vette, impala got it. a number of caprices also.

Thanks dude maybe i was just thinkin' since they weren't over 300hp they weren't lt1s or something.
but even the t/a only had 285

i know the lt1 is a 350 but not every 350 is an lt1 cause look @ all the 80s ones like an l98 or some pos like that. made like 225 hp.

the only lt1's rated 300+ were vettes, ss's, and firehawks.

of course not. the lt1 was only early 90's-late 90's (depending on model). not to be confused with the lt-1 from back in the day. the gs motor is an lt4. i was aware it made it into a handfull of camaros, but have never heard of any pontiacs getting one? possible though.

yes, I park in the Reynolds deck quite often... and yes, the pipes seem to hang low, but they are 3" and the clamp bolts on the longtubes are turned down and are quite visible... You also have to remember that I don't have a Trans-Am body kit which means I don't have ground effects, which leaves the longtubes more exposed... Either way, it sucks going over any speed bump, but it sounds damn good, especially driving through the parking deck with the cutout open...

LT1 is 350ci, but of course isn't the same as a regular ol small block chevy. Main physical differences are the ignition system (optispark on the front of the engine, ran off the cam instead of a distributor in the back, waterpump is also ran off the cam and a one piece rear main seal instead of the normal two piece seal). As said earlier, they were the only (well, LT4 came in a few) V8 option for fbody's. I built a forged/supercharged LT1 for my camaro a few years ago so I know a little bit about them

2piece RMS to 1piece was like '87+...i'm sure y'all already knew that...i just think in terms of generations Gen I, Gen II (LT1 etc), Gen III and so on...and speaking of exhaust hanging low, as well as a badass sound, i'm helping a buddy in asheboro put pacesetter longtubes and a texas speed true dual setup(this one's got moroso spiral flow mufflers) on his 2000 formula...i'll see about a sound clip

got everything on the car today...headers in 4 hours, duals in about 3...however, first attempt, turn downs hang about 2" off the ground...messed with the brackets some and got another 1.5", but that's without anyone in the car...probably going to end up taking the eibachs off the back for another 1.2", but i don't know if he's gonna keep the front ones on or not

sumfoo1 had the right idea with one word...nothing short of ORGASMIC...definitely best sounding street car i've ever heard in person, and it doesn't even have a cam yet (probably going with TSP 231/237)

while i'm waiting to get ahold of a dig. camera, you can see/hear it tomorrow at piedmont...i'm predicting 8.5-8.7's

Hunter, preciate that

Best sounding;
LS1 with the proper exhaust setup (i.e. cutout, true duals, etc.) NOT SLP LOUDMOUTH & NO CATS

Worst sounding;
Honestly, in general terms, CRXs with 3" exhausts.

Best: V10 Ferrari F1 car (sexiest sounding engine period and TV doesn't do it justice)
Enzo, F430, F360 (and many more Ferrari's, especially when they have Tubi's)
Zonda F (Fucking amazing: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=1546524719885647699&q=Zonda+F )
Carrera GT
McLaren F1

Worst: Honda with a fart can (or anything else with a fart can for that matter)

I remember thinking that wrxs sounded awesome and then I heard one today that sounded really honda-like... it was bizarre... very buzzy and whiny, like an extra-powerful ford power-steering pump.

My LT1 with Flowmasters sounds pretty nice.

I'm probably going to longtubes and a Borla system once I get enough money saved up. May wait until I have the cash to build a forged/SC LT1 like Schrepxnel was talking about.

The Best: Larger displacement engines with straight-through exhaust. I'm a fan of low end bass. The kind that V6's and bigger produce. When the car idles and sounds like it wants to eat you. I like that.

The Worst: Most honda 4 bangers, especially the vtec's with fart cans. The whinny-ass sound they make just kills me. Their 6's aren't bad and the Acura Legend in it's prime sounded amazing.
