Went to Aqua Escape. Their tanks still looked horrid, however better than before. Also, the tanks they did have were mostly empty anyway. Not worth the trip out there.

I don't know that the tanks look that bad considering all the work they have done on the place. It is a work in progress that is for sure! Maybe it is just me, but it is cool to just talk to Chris cause he really knows his shit and he has helped me a lot setting up my system. You guys should sign up for the shipment notifications on the site cause they are getting a big shipment of marine fish next week. http://www.aqua-escape.com

...it took him like 15 minutes to even approach us and ask if we needed anything. We were the only people in the store.

the 55 display tank looked incredible! tell chris I'd definitely like to get my tank there, and hopefully support him getting the store back in shape. I only saw 2 big aptasia things, whereas last time i saw about 50 or more, so I am impressed and want to check back in frequently to see how things are moving along. (tell him he does need to greet his guests though )

still can't get it until the middle of march, which is coming soon!!

*NEW QUESTION*

anyone ever build their own filter?

^And you mentioned them getting a fish shipment. There didn't appear to be much of anything besides personal tank setups when we went, so that's good.

does chris need any part time help?

I used to work at a petstore, and my favorite part was taking care of the fish tanks, and I also know a lot about establishing customer relationships

^^I checked them out, they are very nice and knowledgeable, but everything is extremely overpriced. I'd get my RO water there and that's about it.

And if everyone could keep their eyes out for any really large FW fish (25-30) that would not end up as food for my catfish, gimme a shout. Thanks Oh and no $400 Arowanas.

Might come down to that. Just seems a bit boring with one fish in a large tank. Gonna make the rounds this weekend to all the stores and see what I can find.

Yes, Carolina Pet Supply carries fw fish. Koi would need a chiller $$$$ to be kept in an indoor aquarium. I keep my house pretty warm in the summer. Koi are cold water fishes.60-65 deg optimum I believe.

^^^^people keep koi in outside ponds in the summer. I would imagine the water outside is pretty warm in the summer.

Visited the Wilmington Petco this weekend and I don't believe I've ever seen worse saltwater fish conditions (didn't really look at the fw fish). The tanks themselves appeared clear and algae free - but there were differing levels of dead and decaying fish in every tank. I was utterly shocked. Their display tank had a dead foxface whose eyes had already decayed, then two skeletal bodies next to him. Every tank had at least one floater. It was crazy, I don't see how the other fish were living in water that fucked up. Anyone else seen a Petco?

Petco
Nobody at petco knows anything about saltwater, they really don't know much about fish at all (fresh or marine). Fresh water fish are so easy to keep, I guess corporate thought marine fish was the same.

I went to the petco in Rockville, MD to buy dog food and looked at their tanks and was disgusted. The Tangs had HLLE and the damsels had marine ich. Fish were missing eyes/fins (rot), some dead rotting in the tank.

I told the guy that they shouldn't even have Marine fish:
1. You don't know what you are doing.
2. The people that come here to buy fish don't know what they are doing.

I have never been to the one in Wilmington but have been the Petco at Southpoint mall and there are always dead fish in the tank. Usually a lot of dead fish. They must be killing at least twice as many fish as they sell. Then i see people buying fish there and it blows my mind. I feel like telling them to go to a local fish store.
