Panthers reportedly very interested in Isaac Bruce. Even though he's over the hill, he would still be a nice addition.

the Dolphins better get Brees or Culpepper, and if/when they do, you can punch their ticket for the playoffs next year...that is the main thing they have needed

^^yeah definitely. they really upgraded their coaching staff and saban is a good coach anyway. i bet they bring in tommy maddox as a backup though (mularkey is OC), so as long as he never has to play they should be good to go.

The saints don't NEED Mario Williams. Drafting him would be stupid.

we JUST drafted Charles Grant (LE) and Will Smith (RE) in the first round within the past five years.
Additionally, we took J. Sullivan (DT) in '03 and recently added Brian Grant (DT) thru free agency. This is the year to look away from the D-Line completely, at least on day one.

we NEED a fucking new linebacker corps, or at least a cornerback to go alongside Mike McKenzie. But the GM doesn't seem to care about this. His fucking gun-to-foot affinity for DLinemen is like the Panthers on my madden franchise - every single year, they take a HB in the first round.

[Edited on March 14, 2006 at 5:57 PM. Reason : fuck DLinemen.]

What has been determined by Daunte Culpepper being traded to Miami and Drew Brees signing with New Orleans as it relates to the NFL draft? All we know now is the Saints and Dolphins aren't taking a quarterback.

Beyond that, we don't know anything. All this other talk is idle speculation, because Matt Leinart and Vince Young have yet to work out for teams. Leinart isn't working out until April 2, and Young didn't do anything at last month's NFL scouting combine. Teams can't assess quarterbacks until they see them work out.

Now that the Saints have their starting quarterback, what will they do with the No. 2 overall pick? They can trade down, because that pick is very valuable with all three quarterbacks (Jay Cutler, Leinart and Young) sitting there, along with a great left tackle in D'Brickashaw Ferguson and defensive end Mario Williams. The second pick is now the hot pick of the 2006 draft -- assuming Houston takes Reggie Bush.

• Does Tennessee, if it has the pick of the litter, take Leinart and reunite him with his college offensive coordinator Norm Chow, who holds the same position with the Titans?

• I don't think the New York Jets -- who have the fourth pick -- are surprised by what happened with Brees and Culpepper. They still could look at signing Patrick Ramsey to go along with Chad Pennington and draft left tackle Ferguson, which is a need area for them.

• What happens in Oakland, which right now has quarterbacks Marques Tuiasosopo, Andrew Walter and Reggie Robertson on the roster? They had interest in Culpepper but didn't want to give up a second-round pick.

The Raiders still could get a quarterback without moving up. The question is: Do they want to get Leinart? I think Leinart is the best quarterback in this draft. To me he most resembles, coincidentally enough, former Raiders QB Ken Stabler. Leinart is the same type of QB: pocket passer, smart and very accurate.

If Oakland wants the best quarterback in the draft, it will have to move up to No. 2 to get him. If the Raiders want the second-best quarterback, they can stay where they are and still probably get the quarterback they want.

• Where will Cutler go? I think Arizona will look closely at tight end Vernon Davis, but will the Cardinals now call an audible and go after the Vanderbilt quarterback?

• And with Jon Kitna signing in Detroit, I don't see the Lions -- who still have Joey Harrington -- drafting a young quarterback. I think they would look at defensive back Michael Huff from Texas.

Those are just some of the scenarios that could take place in the top 10.

Arizona addressed its need for a running back by signing Edgerrin James; same with the Vikings, who signed Chester Taylor. Teams are filling need areas other than through the draft.

Now that the Saints addressed their primary need and still hold the second overall pick, they are in a great position to either address other needs or trade down and acquire picks.

A lot of teams are going to want to talk to the Saints about their first-round draft choice.

So looks like Saints could trade down and pick up Hawk at number 4 with the Jets jumping ahead of the Titans to get Leinart. I think 2 would be too high for the Saints to pick Hawk and I agree, they definately have alot of other needs to use the number 2 on Mario

But I mean, it was KNOWN that Darren Howard wouldn't be here much longer - that was the point of drafing Fresh Prince in '04. He got franchised, they tried to work out a deal, it didn't happen when Deuce and McKenzie got their extensions, so he played out the season and figures to be more secure someplace else. (for the record, it was at least considered that if they could somehow keep howard, that grant would slide to DT and smith/howard would play the ends)

but. whatever. fuck em. go bears

yeah i know, i just thought it was funny that he was the "part" that was mentioned. normally it'd be like "a trade is in the works between the falcons and the jets. the jets give up abraham for the falcons first round pick plus one of their backups that could probably start for the even shittier jets team"

or something like that

Arizona Cardinals (great WRs already - added Edgerrin James)
Miami Dolphins (played well late last year - added Daunte Culpepper)
Washington Redskins (made playoffs last year - added a few receivers ie Randle El)
New Orleans Saints (didnt play well last year - will get a good draft pick, signed Drew Brees, should have a healthy Deuce McAllister)

to name a few
