Packbacker....Has Barnes not had trouble keeping his kids elligible at Texas? I know they had that kid a few years ago they lost to grades and probably cost them their season.

PJ Tucker, from Raleigh. actually

I wouldn't say that's a coach not being clean though. It's not like he snuck him into school or anything, Tucker just quit trying academically, apparently.

I dont know If I'd consider that a blemish on Barnes, really.

I think Mike Davis could take our players right now and win with them.

But I'd hate to have him as a coach. At least Herb is classy.

Come to think of it

If I recall correctly, didn't the same thing happen to Jordan Collins?

Yeah probably.

Actually I remember our basketball team had a lower score when those new academic rankings came out than our football team. haha

Fuck it...get Barnes here.

no but seriously...I thought I had heard somewhere that he's not clean. But that could be made up. I really dont know.

Jordan had to sit the fall semester of his junior year.

boy, you are digging for dirt on Herb if that's the best you can bring up!

I'm digging up dirt....that happened 2 years ago?

And I just got finished saying it isn't something that should make Barnes look bad that a player was academically ineligible, it happens everywhere....even here..... yet I'm digging up dirt

I mean really, is it that hard?

I dont think packbacker has said fire Herb once, he's just pointing out the flaw in my comment.

Can we not just all agree that Herb doesn't deserve to be fired, but he needs to change something?

My point exactly

We'd be dumb to fire Herb (Unless Phil Jackson was on a plane here). I think our system limits our capabilities, and until I see a Herb coached team rebound, take the ball inside, stop blowing leads, and learn to break a full court press without stupid rainbow passes, I don't think we're going to become a good (CONSISTENT) team.

It's been this way for years

What is it that he doesn't have though? I mean he really did try and get intense during the game last night. Im at a loss of what goes on when we play Duke/UNC, because we are a top 10 team playing anyone else.

While we're dealing with hypotheticals, I'd like to see Rick Pitino at State, the head coach at Illinois, Donovan from UF, Rick Barnes (NC native and grew up as a huge State fan), the coach at Villanova, or Sampson from Oklahoma (a Lumbee from NC), just to name a few.

well Duke/UNC and the Big East

our teams never have the killer instinct to finish people off, and what do we do when we get behind by like 12 in a big game? Totally abandon our competent inside game for a barrage of threes instead of easy points in the paint

i blame herb for that

^ id take both over herb, i just wish we had a different coach going into next year, i'm sick of this shit

granted it's been a couple of years, but what about that ~18 point comeback against a VERY good WFU

i think that was one pretty damned good example of Herb's half-time coaching

What about blowing a 19 point lead with 6:00 on the clock in the ACC Championship vs. Duke?

(And losing by 11, I think, to boot)

That was a matter of him going into his "We've got the lead... just waste the clock and shoot up a prayer 3 pointer when the shot clock is under 5 seconds" offense.

We always do that. Hell, look at the Miami game.

We're so caught up in not losing and wasting clock we ruin everything that got us to that point.

We almost blew the VT game this year too (up 22 early in the 2nd half only to have the lead widdled down to 2 points).

State's teams, under Herb, have usually lacked a killer instinct. I'd love to know how many double digit 2nd half leads we have blown and eventually lost over the years...

Exactly. Look at UNC or Duke this year. I hate him, but they go balls out every game. Whatever they are doing, they are doing a much better job of motivating their players to play hard for every game.

I read in one interview a while ago where Cam Bennerman said he didn't even talk with Sendek much. I wonder how something like that would affect herb's ability to convince cam to play hard for every game (which cam doesn't, coincidentally).

Didn't we have a 12 point lead on Wisconsin last year in the NCAA tournament?

Yeah, I'm gonna blame the Wisconson game on moving screens that lead to about 4 dunks in a row and turned the crowd in their favor. We weren't able to bounce back from that...although they weren't that good of a team and we should have bounced back.

i remember playing at the west forsyth YMCA when evtimov was a HS senior and I was too

chris paul was like 13 and his older brother was like 17

my friend josh shehan who played at App St. also played

evtimov was easily the 3rd best player on that court, chris would rip evtimov like everytime he'd try to bring it up for his squad

after talking all his shit about being signed to NCSU and being embarrassed like 4-5 times there, he stopped coming after a month

he was a bitch

First off, i dont want Kelvin Sampson anywhere near our program, you might as well go get Bob Huggins. Hell, if youre going to hire someone who doesnt give two craps about graduating players, go get Jerry Tarkanian, hes a great coach. Or Jim Harrick, he's got some titles under his belt. Sure, he killed Georgia and URI, but we need titles NOW DAMNIT!

SO we're thowing out names of all the best coaches in America and saying they might actually come to NCSU? Ok, I can play that.

I'd like to see Jim Calhoun, Bob Knight, Phil Jackson, Red Aurebach, Phog Allen, and John Wooden, just to name a few.

(ok, on a more serious note, the only coach id really be welcoming to right now would be Knight b/c hes just fun to watch. Oh, and his teams dont live/die by the 3)

But seriously, why would ANY of those coaches want to come here knowing they have to sweep UNC/Duke every year and go to the Final Four. Our fans have gave Herb so much hell I doubt we seriously could get a high-profile coach.

packboozie...

that happens at every school. In Dean Smith's 4th year he came home from a road loss, stepped off the bus, and found a dummy hanging in the tree by a noose (with a large nose on it, which was how he knew it was him).....twice!

He won the ACC Championship the next year, his 5th year.

Mike Kryzyewski was on the hot seat during his 3rd year at Duke...many people wanted him fired. He won an ACC Championship and reached the NCAA Championship game his 6th year.

This "Poor old Herb" attitude has got to go. The man is a millionaire now and in his...what...11th year?...with nothing but a sweet 16 to show for it (And I realize where he started from)...just saying. Herb is getting no different treatment from anyone else in ACC history with the same credentials That's the nature of the job around here.

Herb's credentials are just about equal to that of Dave Odom (Only Odom had his team #1 in the nation a few times...and an Elite 8). Dave Odom was fired....sorry, not given an extension becuase no one wanted him any more..... Again, I do think Herb is a better coach than Odom, and I don't want him fired, but you have got to realize it's not just terrible NC State fans. That's how Tobacco Road has always been
