welcome to the world of trucks/4wds. you're going from a tight sports car rack/pinion to something with a solid front axle and traditional steering box/draglink/tie rod. just comes with the territory, an inch of play isn't bad at all for something older like that.

I haven't checked the ball joints/tie rods yet. Hopefully I will get another chance to get under the vehicle later this week.

My current plans for the Jeep are to see if its worth putting anymore money into. If i feel that it is, I will probably put a budget lift on it and ride it out until either I get out of grad school or I get rid of it.

I guess I should have expected it. I know I'm a spoiled with the steering/handeling on the honda.

I'd prefer to repair the steering column instead of paying to replace it. The cheeper/the more I can dig into the car the better.

i wouldn't go tearing into the column just yet. LOTS of other more likely stuff to verify first. at that, i imagine the bulk of the problem is you're just not used to how such a vehicle handles/drives. it's never going to have the feel of any car, no matter what you replace/repair. or even the feel of any ifs truck/suv for that matter.

Seriously, I know a little bit about steering and suspension and shit. If you're really worried, we can just weld it all up solid...
