PAGE 2 SAYS ARCHIE MILLER WOULD BE A BETTER COACH THAN HERB

thing is, if we fired a coach with 20+ wins, we'd be the laughingstock of college basketball.

we arent kentucky or unc or duke, and theyre seriously the only schools who could maybe get away with this right now.

just b/c we used to have some great teams nationally in the 70s and 80s (in the 60s and 50s, it was a regional game, noone gives 2 craps what happened then if you arent UCLA) doesnt mean we should consider ourselves in that company. remember the Sporting News issue that had the top programs of all time? they rated us in the upper teens, like 18th or so...id venture to say thats a good gauge of where the nation sees us.

when is his contract up? (herbs)

I agree.. actually

We can't fire him, but that doesn't mean I think he's a good coach. He's not horrible or the worst we could do, but he is a pretty bad in-game coach.

and we aren't these schools because....?

i think we are taking our time and working on having a great program 10 years from now. although that is great, we will see great talent unrealized due to poor coaching and the lack of willingness to change strategy. yes we had a decent season this year, but at best that's all we have been....decent. any program should strive to be #1 every year, not settle for 20th place (although it is pretty high).
i think we've seen the best of Herb. he'll get us to the tournament, but we won't get anywhere that matters. i know he got us to the sweet 16 last year, but that was last year.
if his performance doesn't get better THIS year, how can we be sure that he'll eventually get us that championship?
there's other great coaches out there and i think all NCSU fans are tired of disappointment. we are constantly being teased with potential greatness, only to fail in the end due to a few shortcomings.
while i believe firing herb may be a drastic move, it may be what we need to do to reach the next level. is it satisfactory that we keep losing easy games every year? our reputation isn't that great, and that is what gets us good recruiting, sponsorships, money, etc.

we can always do better. the other teams keep showing us that.

you might be able to make a case out of all these

but better?

please try to explain how we're better than teams that beat us?

Wake Forest is horrible - and yet they beat us by, what, 13 points?

and somehow, since we got our asses kicked by playing shitty ball, you're trying to make the claim that NCSU is better, and has better players?

what the fuck ever - Herb does need to be fired, but we NEED better players if our ball club is ever going to get over that retarded hurdle we can't seem to jump

Herb's had top 25 recruiting classes 8 of his 10 years.

We just
1) Choose to recruit these slow, supposedly fundamental players
2) don't develop players
3) Don't utilize players properly

Dammit if we get a Solid Center who wont wanna shoot 3 pointers all the time...and some Fwds that wont shoot 3 all the time...some Guys just for rebounding and defense i.e. centers and fwds...and actual guards that can dish and dribble....

When is the last time we had a "Center"??

that's what I'm saying

we don't have anyone that plays up to the potential of a classic center

simmons isn't tall enough, and he also (like you were also saying biggs) takes too many 3 pointers - a center should never take 3s unless the team is up by 20 or something, he should attack the basket and the inside

Brackman also takes too many 3s and plays too much perimeter to be considered that way

if i'm not mistaken, simmons is 2-2 from 3 pt range this season. in what way is that too many for 29 games?

I think we on the same page. Every time I see one of our "centers" shoot from 20ft out and esp. 3 pointers...I get fucking pissed. They take more 3's than Dirk Nerv...whatever his name is from Dallis Mavericks...I just want a traditional big man that can bang the boards, not foul out, and give me 15-19 points a game...and a guard that can get him the ball...

if he's really got 2-2, then that's fine

I guess I meant just taking outside shots that he doesn't always connect on

and Evtimov trying to take alot of outside shots

he was money at them last season - not so good this season, especially where it's been the difference between a win and a loss

Simmons is 2-2 shooting 3 pointers.... so you keep a 6'11" guy outside the arc? Is that supposed to mean he's a scoring threat from there?

He should not be going out above the arc during the game much, if ever.

i didn't say he was an effective center, just that he wasn't attempting a lot of bad 3 pt shots. i agree that he should be in the paint way more. and should power to the basket more.

we should give burleson a shot... we already know that he'll rip the ref's heads off..

and yes we need a stronger center.. wasn't it Digger that said "to win a national title you need to go inside"

I find it funny the "It's not Herb's fault the players can't hit shots!" argument.

Roy didn't have that problem last night, did he?
If we can't hit shots, wouldn't it make sense to take the ball inside to Simmons? Noooo....

^except the way we play the post is fucking childish. it's ced versus 3 guys. We never set any screens for him down low or run cutters toward the basket once he is getting smothered with the ball. We also cant setup entry passes to him for shit.

In summary, it's coaching, stupid!
