a knock-off of Resident Evil?

wtf

28 Days Later is an awesome movie. Resident Evil sucked, it barely made sense and was based off a video game. At least in 28 Days Later you are aware of the main characters names

Resident Evil was a good zombie movie

i would put it about even with 28 days later.

How exactly did rez evil barely make sense but 28 days was just a hodgepodge of logic?

28 days later was written and directed very well
just for example i like how you saw what was going on on the island and asumed the whole world was the same, and with just one shot of an airplane in the sky it changed all that, now that is smart directing

Resident Evil is 28 trillion times better than 28 days later, and I've never even played the video games. Let's do a comparison.

Resident Evil: Virus released by greedy man to cover his theft. Commandos descend into a secret underground lab to figure out why the computer killed everyone. They have to go through cool lasers to shut down the computer. When they do so, they release swarms of the infected dead, which are animated and contagious. The soldiers are trapped below ground with hundreds of zombies between them and the exit, racing against time to escape before the place is incinerated, and they must make sure the virus doesn't spread to the surface. They go through hell to get to the exit, and fight a hideous monster on the train ride out.

28 days later: Virus released accidently by animal rights activists. Guy wakes up in hospital, finds pacts of mindless killers that should've died after the first week of coughing up blood and probably not eating/drinking anything. Guy finds random survivors, then travels to find horny soldiers. Since soldiers want a rape party on the girls, guy sics the zombies on them. Group sits around until zombies die out. Plane flies overhead. Yay.

Resident Evil:

6.2 http://imdb.com/title/tt0120804/

35% http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/resident_evil/

28 days later:

7.3 http://imdb.com/title/tt0289043/

89% http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/28_days_later/

conclusion:

your opinion FUCKING SUCKS.

Resident Evil is a decent pop-movie with no meaning or depth.

28 Days Later is MUCH better done, with a better story, better acting, and better characters.

28 days later was marketed TOTALLY different in europe. it was meant as a commentary on society, not as a horror movie. and they were NEVER zombies. they were NEVER undead.

"dead alive" (aka, "braindead") will always hold a special place in my heart as #1 zombie flick.

exactly. 28 days later, the infected are an afterthought really. so much of the story is about the interaction between characters and watching the main guy (cant remember his name off the top of my head) sorta sink into state of rage which was not unlike the actual infected. i'll admit, i was a little letdown by the ending because i was really into the creepy aspect of the first 3/4's of the movie, but its a whole lot deeper and meaningful than resident evil.

Your RE description pretty much reads like Generic Action Movie #1223092A (which is not inherently a bad thing), and your narrow-mindedness caused you to miss the actual plot elements of 28 Days Later.

Feel free to tell me what I'm missing anytime. The movie isn't scary or exciting. Exactly what "plot elements" make it so great?

its just not your thing. some people like movies that go beyond things blowing up and people shooting guns and getting blasted with lasers, etc. i'm not insulting that, cause i own both of these movies on dvd. its just that i kinda liked seein the characters interact and seeing how they were dealing with the situation rather than the situation itself. i always compare it to dawn of the dead, where its really too much action and not quite enough character, whereas 28 days later is the opposite.

Do you people listen to yourselves? You condemn Resident Evil, an action and horror movie, for having action and horror. You label it as "generic", even though the movie you're praising came out a year later and does the same "escape from insane infected people" thing. I'm still waiting for someone to explain what was so great about the plot and character interaction.

I heart 28 days later. Reminds me of Robert Kirkman's kickass comic "Walking Dead" in some places. But now that I mention it, I'm not sure which came first...

Give me other good zombie movies. Romero is a good place to start.

one of my favorite movies

it's so bizarre how i've gotten into zombie movies since it came out

Quote :

Good point. They're infected, not zombies. Infected with "rage" and so of course they're able to starve to death.

Resident Evil was populated with "living corpses," and I'm not talking about the zombies. A living corpse is a character who you only know enough about to recognize their corpse after the character's inevitable grisly end.

i have to say this shit in EVERY thread about an action movie. give it a rest ppl. i liked both movies alright, but found RE more enjoyable. i dont exactly compare them to each other though, since they are so different. i prefer my commentary, plot, and character development to non zombie-like movies.

^^^Dammit, you people keep saying that but I've yet to see an explanation. What aspect of society is it commentating on? It's just a bad science fiction/drama movie, and I don't care how much retarded symbolism you see in it.

is there commentary/symbolism/etc...sure, but lets not act like they werent going for a zombie fest as well to entertain the idiots among us.

shivan, i never said 28 days later was about social commentary, so i know you arent talking to me, but i did explain what i thought was good about it. my guess is the reason you're bored watching it is cause you think nothing happens. the reason nothing seems to happen is because so much of the movie is conversation between characters about the situation rather than the film showing the situation itself. there are so many scenes where the characters are just sittin around talkin, which admittedly can be boring, but i enjoyed these conversations cause they did a good job of capturing the emotions of characters in this situation (i guess anyway, since i've never seen real people in this situation) instead of just mindless banter.

Whatever social commentary may exist in 28 Days Later can be pulled from the very beginning -

The monkeys being infected with "rage" and are watching the images of war, violence, etc. I guess if you want to pull a meaning from the movie, it'd be something like rage and violence are bad, but they're present, and increasing, in society.

And extremist animal rights advocates are stupid.

^ exactly, ok if you want the reason why 28 days later is not a popcorn movie but a movie with a deeper meaning,

1. the story is told alot in subtle ways, ex. "the airplane", the key, etc.
we dont know anything abou the key so we have to imagine the rest which is where alot of the fun is
-if it were Resident evil they would have shown some dude puttinng the key there seconds before he is eaten alive by zombies, which is cool but leaves little to the imagination
2. the story involves characters that are very real and believable, so its like a what if and how would regular people cope in that situation, In RE is like put a bunch of wacky people in there and have fun
3. Its alot harder to see where 28 days is going than RE. there are many things that keep your attention and the direction and pace of the movie can change at any time, unlike RE where everything is pretty predictable
