Thats b/c four losses at the beginning of the season is completely different than 4 losses at the end. Our team was much better at the beginning of the season than at the end of the season. This was a big problem since every other team in the ACC IMPROVED.

Personally I don't think Herb has what it takes to take things to the next level. However based on his achievements this year I wouldn't really say it'd be fair to fire him either.

kbncsufan posted the 2007 Recruiting class, and it made me wonder about Nate McMillan's kid, Jamelle, and whether or not we'll offer him. Anyone think so? He goes to O'Dea HS in Seattle, Washington and has Stanford, and Washington as his other schools of interest. Now I'm thinking that if all 3 schools offered it would probably come down to Washington and State. He might want to stay close to home, but then again he might want to go to school where his dad went.

What people fail to fucking realize is that we're recruiting 16-18 year old kids. Kids who have no fucking clue that we won National Championships in 1974 and 1983. Kids who have no clue that that David Thompson was the best college basketball player ever. Kids who only know Jimmy V as the dude that died of cancer and has that classic every year where they show his ESPY speech in between games. Before the past 5 years, the only way they knew NC State is that we played in the same conference as UNC and Duke and if they had a decent memory, they might remember CBS showing the clip of our '83 championship during tourney time every year.

Our tradition means nothing to basketball recruits. Oh wait, they go into our arena and see our banners. Whoop-tee-fuckin-doo. They can go to the arena's at Marquette, the University of San Francisco, Cincinnati, Loyola, and fucking UTEP and see similar banners and it would mean the same damn thing.

Michael Jordan, Jerry Stackhouse, Rasheed Wallace, Vince Carter, Jamison, Brand, Magette, Hill, etc.... These are names these kids know. Todd Fuller, Tom Gugliotta, Vinny Del Negro. These are names these kids don't know.

To think that we can compete with UNC and Duke in recruiting is just plain dumb. If we were Texas and were able to pick the best basketball players from that humongous state (which is what Rick Barnes has done), then we would be close. If we were UConn and had Rip Hamilton, Ben Gordon, and Ray Allen as our alumni along with the recent success, then we would be able to pluck some great recruits out of the Northeast...then we would be close. If we were Thad Matta and able to offer a shitload of playing time and get three awesome recruits to not want to be far away from home and come in as a package deal...then we would be close.

However...we are NC State. Every time we want a top recruit to come in for a visit...he says to himself..."well shit, I'm going down to Raleigh, I might as well stop by the Dean Dome, and stop by Durham and talk to Coach K." Then he goes in there and sees the arenas and teams that ESPN has orgasms over twice a year when building up their rivalry...he sees the jerseys of these awesome players that are playing in the NBA RIGHT NOW....he sees the banners for championships that were actually won less than 20 years ago......now can you see how it is impossible to recruit with Duke and UNC???

The only thing you can possible say about Herb's recruiting is that he has struck out on some point guards and big men. Other than that...I think he's done about as good a job you could do unless you brought in Michael fucking Jordan as our main recruiting assistant.

it's going to have to take a recent ACC Championship, Final 4, perhaps even a National Championship, or some amazingly underrated player that comes through here and just explodes in the NBA ala Michael Jordan for us to get on the level of Duke and UNC in the fact that they can just pick from the top recruits in the nation. Then you've got Hubert Davis, Jay Bilas and a couple of other Duke and UNC alums on ESPN and working for JP Sports or Fox Sports South helping out recruiting just by simply being on television. Think about how many times you've been watching a game where Mike Gminski is one of the commentators and the other commentator mentions his career at Duke. UNC basically gets nearly all of the best high school players in this talent filled state, plus some of the best nationally.

You losers are the kind of pathetic faggots whose highest aspiration is middle management. You can't get lamer than "I THINK THE BEST WE CAN DO IS MIDDLING, SO SHUT THE FUCK UP AND SUPPORT HERB."

Every dominant program today was made from scratch by a great coach who produced more results than sendek over the same time period. Anyone remember Uconn's long tradition of dominance? They simply hired a coach with the talent and desire to make a top-tier basketball program (yes, despite Duke and UNC also being dominant). Sendek has neither the talent nor the desire. The sooner we fire this loser, the sooner we can look for an upgrade.

I can understand how completely risk-averse losers love a completely risk-averse loser, though, and I can understand how you don't have the balls to make a change from the status quo.

SI doesn't give a shit about NC State, and the unstated assumption in the column is that the author doesn't think we can ever be a top program. The columnist didn't say he believed that Sendek could win at the highest level. If you people who hate NC State love the column so much, why don't you email the author and ask him if he thinks we can get to the final four or win an NC under Sendek? You'll see that his statements were made in the context of the belief that we can never be a contender.

By this point in time, Valvano had 2 ACC titles, a regular season title, and 14 NCAA wins. Norm Sloan had 3 ACC titles, 2 regular season titles, and 5 NCAA wins (when you had to win the ACC). Everett Case had 4 ACC titles and 3 regular season titles.

But we should be happy with 4th place.

I think people who support Herb Sendek are given the wrong perception. I'm not happy with a 4th place finish. I'm not happy with bowing out in the 2nd round either.

But I'm still logical.

You CAN'T fire a coach who has taken you to 5 straight NCAAs with several 20+ seasons, who was coach of the year several years ago, finished 2nd in the ACC, has been to numerous ACC title games, is graduating his players, and has harbored a pretty clean program for the last 6 or 7 years. Especially when we had the worst program in the ACC when he took over and the head coach was 32 FUCKING YEARS OLD. Not to mention he had to rebuild this program while being stuck in between the two best programs in the country for the past 20 years.

You just can't justify that decision. I'm still dissappointed. Would I love to have Rick Barnes come in next year and coach this team?? Mmmm...probably. But it's not going to happen. Would I like to have Ben Howland come in and coach next year's team?? Hell yeah...but it's not going to happen. You can repeat this for about 20 other coaches that you would like to have other than Sendek.

I still think Sendek's a good coach. A lot you dumbasses who are saying he's this horrible fucking coach have been bitching really loud the last 5 or 6 games....but why weren't you bitching when we were 10-3 in the ACC (I will some of you credit for continuing to bitch while we were winning)??? He has shown that he's a good coach....he's also shown that he can making coaching mistakes (he's still only 42 years old). Our losing streak this year came at the worst possible time. I think this is the first time in the last 6 or 7 years that we've faltered at the end of the season and that's dissapointing.

I'm not blindly supporting Herb. He has some changes/decisions to make for next year, and here's to hoping he makes the correct ones. I also know he's going to be here next year, so I'm going to support him and the team. We've got some really good players returning and some other good ones coming in.

And let the bitching continue...
