not a good read. we have never been a serious contender with herb. not in the postseason anyway.
acc tourney wins, sure, but gettin blown the heck outta the coliseum in the finals says otherwise. 3/22/2006 3:14:09 PM |

So you mean to tell me that we have gone from blaming and hating the local media for their involvement with V's removal or the '73 sanctions incurred from David Thompson's recruitment to siding with them for getting the story right about Herb?
Aren’t they still the UNC biased writers on the beat? 3/22/2006 3:21:41 PM |

What the hell is wrong with ya'll, how hard is it to understand how far we have come since Herb got here. We are consistently in the top 4 in the ACC and we make the tournament every year now. NC State has such a long way to go before they can even touch a Duke or a UNC, I am sorry that many State fans can't accept that. I agree with DBR on the fact that the fucking flamboyant ass football coach we have is only maintaining his job by kissing alumni and fans asses. If Herb is fired before Chuck I will be ashamed to be a State fan for that day. 3/22/2006 3:48:33 PM |

National media, local media...whatever.
All i know is that despite being from a Duke website, this article is a pretty bias-free, reasonable knowledgeable and logical summary of the Sendek situation. 3/22/2006 3:56:45 PM |

^Go back to Durham, Mr. NC State will never be as good as Carolina or Duke.
Quote : | "If you gave him stupid sunglasses, ugly shoes, and a fashion sense which would embarrass a 12-year-old, and if he consistently finished around fifth or sixth in the conference, maybe he'd be as popular as Chuck Amato, who is arguably less successful in his sport than Sendek is in his. But Amato is beloved for his eccentricities and it overshadows his middling success. Sendek, who would fit in at a Fortune 500 accounting firm, doesn't have that advantage." |
amato isn't popular right now. DBR likes to keep spitting this amato line, hoping some day it will be true.

Amato is certainly popular compared to Sendek, and I'd say he was downright popular before this past season. Anyway, it seems the only thing most people can argue with that article about is Amato's popularity. If that's the best argument you have against their take on the Sendek situation, I'd say they did a pretty damn good job. 3/22/2006 4:21:14 PM |

I don't think they're saying we should be happy where we are. Hell, they even have a list of who they think might be the best replacements.
I do think they're saying that we've come a long way, have a ways to go, and yeah, maybe we haven't gotten there as fast as we'd like. They say that getting a new coach might help, but is a huge gamble.
They say it'd be tough to get a "big-timer" here, based on our history.
But nowhere do they say that we should be happy forever with seasons like we've had the past 5 years. 3/22/2006 4:27:59 PM |

Probably 50% of Herb Haters agree with you nutsmack.
Those of us who support Herb don't think he's maxxed out yet. Personally, I'm willing to give him another year or three, and if things aren't looking better, then toss his ass out.
It's the other 50% of the Herb Haters that I think this article responds to. Those that hate him simply because he has no personality, and is so unlike Jimmy V. 3/22/2006 4:45:57 PM |

^^^based on what?
what makes you think he's maxed out? we started out the year 21-5, something we've never done before under herb. i think some mistakes were made and we abandoned the inside game and fell apart towards the end of the season. i think that's something we all learned from, coaching staff included, and it can be improved upon.
personally, i'm more encouraged by the fact that we lost our last 4 regular season games rather than our first 4. that proves that we can actually have a year where we don't start out like shit and then have to get better in time for the tournament. to me that shows improvement. now all we have to do is keep starting out good and then not fuck up at the end of the year.

Based on the fact that we've been to the S16 once in a decade.
BUT SANDSANTA, LOOK AT OUR ACC RECORD, ITS AWESOME IF YOU DONT CONSIDER THE FACT THAT WEVE BEEN RAPED BY WAKE, DUKE, MARYLAND, AND UNC ALL-TIME.
but then again, these same people don't mind being 4th or 5th.

IT'S NOT JUST THE RESULTS!
IT'S HIS COACHING! HIS OFFENSE! LACK OF REBOUNDING! TERRIBLE SUBSTITUTIONS! TERRIBLE IN GAME ADJUSTMENTS!
the list goes on. if you've watched us for a season, then you can't help but notice them. and they've lingered for ten years and he has failed to correct them.
that is why he will never take us to the next level.
we know where he has gotten us. so stfu a/b that. we appreciate what he's done for us. but it's clear he has some serious coaching deficiencies that prevent us from taking the next step. 3/22/2006 6:13:39 PM |
