Ah, phishy, you are correct BUT!

Who cares how many TDs he scores when STEVE SMITH is opposite of him scoring ridiculous amounts of TDs for us? We got him for the name, speed, size, and THREAT to defenses to let smitty continue his murderous ways.

Granted, keyshawn alone isnt much of a threat...but when you pair him with the most DOMINANT and EXPLOSIVE WR in the game then all of a sudden he is a useful part of the system that makes the TEAM better. (hopefully he will recognize that hiring him was about the PANTHERS and not KEYSHAWN)

How can you disagree with that?

i can already see keyshawn starting to have temper tantrums over smith getting all the catches

i'm not a big panthers fan, but this doesnt seem like the wisest move

nobody can defend smith anyway, might as well get the youngster receivers involved and use the money elsewhere, not to mention bringing in a fucking head case

obviously you didnt watch the nfc championship game when they shut smitty down cause we had no other WR threats. (yes losing foster AND goings also contributed)

the panthers as a team do better when we balance our offense and then let smitty go to work.
Its called symbiotic teamwork.

But yeah keyshawn might end up running his mouth and I will eat these words, but ya cant knock the guy about it until he does so on this team. The panthers clubhouse and locker room is known as being one of the most familial, group oriented in the NFL. He is butt buddies with henning and will get his shots, otherwise we wouldnt have signed him.

as long as keyshawn keeps his shit together mentally...oh i can imagine some great things:

"Delhomme huddles the troops...he has one back and three wide...Foster in the backfield, Smith and Johnson in the outs with Carter in the flat next to Smith...the snap...Delhomme drops back...has time...Carter is deep long in single coverage...Delhomme feels some pressure, he breaks to the left...Keyshawn is calling for it over the middle but the left corner and strong safety are there...SMITH, on a diagonal cross has beaten his man in single coverage! Delhomme to Smith! Touchdown Carolina, Delhomme to Smith with the 47 yard touchdown pass, oh baby, you gotta love it!"

btw i'm a panthers homer

whoever said Keyshawn is a pussy has probably never watched the man play...any receiver that actually takes pride in blocking downfield, is not a pussy.

it's been mentioned before, but having a big, physical, blocking receiver is going to be key. the guy is a bit of a ego-maniac, but he'll be a nice distraction from steve smith. like him or not, other teams are gonna have to account for him.

personally, i dont think there will be an ego problem. Keyshawn came out 2 weeks ago and said he wanted to come here. You know Fox and crew laid it all out for him and told him exactly what his role would be, and what to expect. They wont let it get out of hand. I see a Smith/Moose situation for these guys, as a guy like Keyshawn is a great compliment to 89.

I dont think key had any probs in NY did he?

He said that henning is a major reason that he wanted to come here, and henning was with the jets when key was, so there shouldn't be any major probs.

plus, he didn't have any major probs in dallas, so maybe he's mellowed out a little. He is delusional if he thinks he is the go to receiver, so i think he'll "know his role" here.

last time i checked, we had smitty, so i think 6 td's next year will more that suffice, 10 and we've got home field throughout the playoffs.

he didn't have the best QB's throwing to him either... Brad Johnson won a super bowl yeah, but that seemed to be a running, defensive team, and im guessing Jinny Testawhatever was the QB for the jets..
Still 10 isnt bad, theres only 16 games in the regular season...

^good pt. he has had second rate/ancient QB's his whole career.

it is funny however how i went from loathing him to loving him in about a week.

I love being a homer. Cant wait to get to BoA and raise some hell next season.

I am still not sure if I like this pick up. His abilities, size, strength and fearlessness of going across the middle will be great attributes for us, but I still wonder about his attitude, mouth, and personality fitting in at Carolina. But if he has been told his role, and is fine with it and contributes whole heartedly then I will shut my mouth and give a big Hell Yeah to KJ...

Still need a TE and a decent RB...so I know we not going to pick up a WR in draft, so hopefully a solid RB falls to our position and we can pick a TE later in draft. A TE is not as needed now with addition of such a big blocking WR, but how nice would that be to have that WR duo and a TE.

What?? You can not like the guy if you want, but he is one of the few recievers in the league that isnt afraid to go over the middle, take a hit, and hes also a hell of a blocker, prbly the best in the league. Is he a bitch becuase of the me first money attitude? yes; a pussy? no

as long as he doesn't open his mouth, i'm happy having somebody that can produce besides smith. of course smith had a big mouth when he first came to the panthers too.....remember the locker room brawl where he broke some scrubs jaw. proehl is what calmed him down though and made him see the team mentality. i just hope proehl either sticks around as a player or coach to be the one to teach keyshawn the same thing.

i still think there is a chance that carter will really compete for the 2nd receiver spot next year, and may even end up with better #s than johnson.

is the signing even official yet?

^alriiiiight. More help to block for deshaun! Come to think of it, deshaun only started two games for us when we had moose blocking and he tore it up (nfc champ vs eagles & superbowl after davis went down in the playoffs).

He and davis got injured almost in the same game the next year when moose went crazy and never got to start a year when we had that outside blocking presence (which is where deshaun burns defenses on cutbacks and corner runs).

It would seem that recent moves by the panthers to keep foster and beef up the blocking for him shows the faith that they have in his ability to be a feature back when he is not getting completely hammered by defenses all game (thank god we dont play the bears again this year).

I originally thought we would draft a RB 1st, but all this kindof makes sense now that the pieces are falling into place. The two biggest concerns we have in the draft are OLB and TE - both of which will be available by the 27th pick. (cant seriously expect the ballin RBs to still be available or for us to risk trading up except for lendale and from what I hear everybody else wants him too)

My new 1st round panthers predictions:
Marcedes Lewis(UCLA) TE and if he is already gone, then
Manny Lawson (NCSU) OLB

hell friggin yeah muthafuckers cant wait for football season!

What do you say to the people who are obsessed with the team having a receiving tight end? Derek, Raleigh, NC

I think what people might not understand is that there are five eligible receivers in the game. By virtue of the way we move people around, the tight end gets into one of the receiving spots sometimes, but his major job is as a blocker in pass protection. He still has to be effective for us in certain downs and distances and field positions, though. Our tight ends have been that way. When they have gotten down in the red zone, they have been much more effective. We don't feature one in particular, but our tight ends usually end up with about 45-50 catches between them. I think we do a pretty good job. We just don't have one who is going to catch 90 balls because we're not set up that way. There are teams in the League who have tight ends who catch that many, but if you look closely, you'll see they don't have a wide receiver who catches that many. If our tight end was the guy who was best suited to make big plays down the field, then we'd give it to him. Our best asset was Steve Smith last year, Muhsin Muhammad the year before, and Stephen Davis the year before that. We're going to give them the ball.

"

Q&A with Dan Henning

this says to me that we won't go after a TE in early rounds. I really don't think we need one anyway.

^i'm with you i think that mangum and sideman are ok, but gaines is our TE for the future once he gets a little more polished.

All we really need/ask them to do is block.

yeah the team philosophy worked well with wesley walls catching passes, but to have the run-first offense you have to have capable blockers...our current tight ends are pretty good at that, as is brad hoover the fullback...now add keyshawn into the mix

Man, I'll miss Proehl but good addition. I think Keyshawn has 2-3 more years left in him. I wasn't too happy with the Resigning of Foster. He gets hurt too much. Any word on what the panther's will be looking for in Draft? I say DT, TE, or OG.

they got a few DTs in free agency so i dont think they'll be too gungho to get one in the draft

dont know if we'll be looking for a TE either now that we got keyshawn

offensive guard...i dunno...mike wahle isnt going anywhere but its always nice to beef up your lines

i think an outside linebacker to fill in for the absence of Will Witherspoon is a top priority
