which makes absolutely no sense since they took out a no. 3 and a no. 1 seeded team, and there are no no. 1 seeds left (since it appears to be likely that nova isn't advancing)3/26/2006 7:08:37 PM |

You want to explain that?
They beat Michigan State, UNC, and UConn...so they don't have a shot at beating those powerhouse teams Florida, UCLA, and LSU?

UCLA made something like 5 field goals the entire second half. That's god awful.
They don't deserve to be in the Final Four because if either Texas or UConn had put out a team against the UCLA team that played last night they would have been run off of the court. It's disappointing to have a regional final look like the UCLA/Memphis game did.
We'd all be better served by a LSU/Texas rematch than to see LSU play a UCLA team that has played a grand total of one good half over the last two games. But honestly, I hope UCLA actually shows up to a game and makes the LSU game enjoyable to watch. Otherwise, they really don't deserve to play more than a team that actually played a decent Elite 8 game did.
But I'm sure that you have some awesome connections to UCLA that make you their biggest fan, so you can just ignore whatever I say.3/26/2006 11:10:14 PM |

Worst final four? Try the best. For once it's not a contest involving Duke and Uconn. I always resented their sense of entitlement and it's nice to see some teams that genuinely appreciate being there because it was the last thing they expected. 3/27/2006 7:56:52 AM |

The reason this tournament has been so crazy is because teams that were supposed to show up and wipe the floor with the other teams, didn't...otherwise it would be all #1 seeds in the final four. So saying that if Texas or UConn had played UCLA instead of Memphis, then UCLA would have gotten killed? How can you possibly say that???
And as for personal connections, look, my team is out and has been since Nova beat em, but I grew up with the Bruins as my team...cause here you either love UCLA or USC, and I loved UCLA so sure, if my school plays the Bruins then I hope they get their ass kicked, but when it's something like this then of course I'm rooting for them, especially seeing as how money is involved3/27/2006 1:28:17 PM |

Uconn and Texas were both playing MUCH better basketball than UCLA and memphis . They were better and probably would have advanced if they'd been in that bracket.

UConn couldn't advance past GEORGE MASON.
And Texas has been playing like crap for two months; it just didn't show in the Big 12 (or against us) because of the lack of decent competition.3/27/2006 1:59:24 PM |

What's with the George Mason hate? It's not like they backed into the Final 4. They beat a solid Michigan State team, a UNC team that was playing very good basketball and an upstart Witchita State team that had its share of big wins. It's not like they snuck up on UCONN. 3/27/2006 2:01:33 PM |

they were losing to a 16 seed for a good chunk of their opening round game and escaped with an OT win against UW

Because I watched the game? Did you?
A YMCA rec team could have beaten UCLA and Memphis the way they were playing the other night. The only reason UCLA won was because they had a 7' tall guy, who unlike our center, doesn't fuck up every time he tries to dunk and they finally realized that if they just told him to do that, they'd probably win that shitfest known as a basketball game.3/27/2006 5:27:37 PM |

OK, well then if the Texas or UConn team that played YESTERDAY, played against the UCLA team that played on Saturday, then I suppose it's quite possible they would have lost. Of course if we could pick and choose team match-ups after the fact, then it really wouldn't be a sport or competiton now would it? A good basketball team isn't one that just has a really good 3pt shooter, or the best FG%, or the least foul, or least turn-overs, etc...it's being able to adjust their offensive and defensive strategy successfully.
And perhaps UCLA has a tendency to get lazy...in the PAC-10 tourny they were up double-digits and Howland was still screaming at the boys because they weren't playing defensive cause at that point, it didn't really matter...So maybe they were being the same way in the Memphis game, I don't know. But if you don't have to push as hard to win, you don't...whether that's good or bad, it's a fact of life and of sports.3/27/2006 7:48:13 PM |

They shot for 4/17 in the second half.
Lets recap, they made a grand total of 4 baskets in an entire half of basketball. Albany would have run a goddamn train on UCLA.
Whereas UConn just never played up to their supposed level, UCLA and Memphis didn't deserve to be called basketball programs after their game.
UCLA has played a grand total of one good half over the last two games, so pardon me if I'm not terribly excited to see them get a chance to shit up another game of basketball.

DID YOU WATCH THE GAME? Because I swear to christ you must not have if you say it's "quite possible" that the UConn and Texas teams that played in their Elite 8 games could have beat UCLA. I mean, there's no way you could have watched the game and have any doubt that they would have gotten steamrolled by the UConn team who played GMU or the Texas team who played LSU.
This is where you make your name-drop excuse for not watching the game. For example "Oh, I was going to watch my team play but I was hanging out with B-list celebrity and couldn't get it on the TV"
Edit: The second paragraph of your post makes it blatantly obvious you didn't watch the game, so if you'd kindly stop trying to support your "team" by making excuses for them and making idiotic comments, that'd be just super.
