he was right though, but not because he knows what he is talking about, but because of his own stupidity. State will never be UNC or Duke. Thats because UNC and Duke have become State. State had the ACC banners, NCAA banners, most dominate college players, giant killers (UCLA > UNLV), charismatic coaches, improbable runs, and hostile environments (reynolds > cameron) before UNC and Duke. State doesnt want to be UNC or Duke, State wants to be State.

To think it cant ever happen is sheer ignorance on romes part. It shows he doesnt know what he is trying to speak on. All i heard about UCLA this final four run is 'their mystique is back!', so dont give me the garbage about it being so long ago noone remembers. thats a load of shit.

If we get a coach in that can take us to a couple final fours or elite eights then you can bet we will see Jimmy V running around even MORE on espn. Rome made himself out to be the idiot in that segment.

State is a good program, but to run out a coach who takes you to the tourney five years in a row looks pretty ridiculous to everyone else in the country except state fans. he's not saying you should be shit, because state WASN'T shit. that's the point. state fans think they are ENTITLED to greatness because of teams that existed thirty years ago. that's just not how it works

remember when nebraska fired frank solich after going 9-3? same thing. everyone else in the nation thought they were crazy, except nebraska fans. and that's not even as bad as state because nebraska had won a national title just a few years earlier. so what happens when you run a coach out after a good season? you end up with fucking bill callahan because nobody else wants to deal with that bullshit, no matter how much of respected football/basketball school you are.

^^I'm not saying that state CAN'T be on the level of duke and carolina, but do you know what that'll take? Be realistic man. how many teams are on that level? uhhhh....none? not even top tier teams like michigan state and arizona are in that same category. maybe kentucky. teams go through bad stretches. look at indiana. they were arguably the pinnacle of college basketball for a while and where are they now? state can strive to be a top team, but it's going to take alot to be at the level of duke and carolina. it sucks, but that's just how it is. not that is shouldn't be a goal, but c'mon, baby steps man.

we have the facilities, fanbase, and past success to warrent aspirations of reaching that level again.

^ dude i completely agree. Its not going to happen over night. I just took exception to the fact that Rome is treating state like a never-has-been, never-will-be school. Given our current status and our past success there is no reason we shouldnt aim for a big time coach that can get us on our way to being top teir again.
