Quote : | "It just shows how much I guess perception or what people perceive you to be effects how they react. Me and Rhymefest was talking about this the other day. The audience wants the “conscious rapper” or underground rap artist to be asexual. I got two kids. Kweli has two kids.
Somebody’s getting laid. Yeah, exactly! I didn’t get the kids from discussing the five elements! [Laughs.] We want some pussy! I hate to burst people’s bubbles, but to the female rap fans: yes, your favorite underground rapper wants to fuck you. They ask you to come to they room after the show, they don’t want to talk about the culture, they don’t wanna play you their new album, they wanna fuck" |

Nigga- sells dope Nigger- PROUDLY sells dope
Nigga- goes to jail Nigger- goes BACK to jail
Nigga- distrusts the white man Nigger- BLAMES the white man
Nigga- listens to coke rap Nigger- DEFENDS coke rap
Nigga- loves self Nigger- equates self-love to being 'bougie' and self-hate to being 'hood' " |

Quote : | "So, what happens when a music nerd's personal best kept secret gets out, and the rest of the world catches on? They turn their backs and move on to the next Little Rap Engine That Could, that's what. I seen it happen to The Roots. I seen it happen to Kanye. I see it starting to happen with Lupe.
Fuck that. Not me.
"Getback" is me and Pooh's pre-emptive strike. Rather than give niggas the power to abandon me, I'll just write them off from jump and assume I won't be able to depend on them anyway. Is it risky? Of course. Evolution always is. But this ain't '94, and the Little Brother's, Saigons, and Rhymefests of the world don't have the time to build up a 'loyal fanbase' after 4 or 5 albums in today's marketplace. This is 2006. Rap is uncertain.
I could say more, but the point I'd like to make to all fans of all music, regardless of if you buy "Getback" or not, is this:
Love the song, not the singer. And when it comes to your favorite group, just appreciate the music they make and leave it at that. The minute you start reading more into it and making assumptions based on your perception, you're done.
Don't ever put your faith in artists. We will always, always, ALWAYS let you down.
Getback '07." |
