It's not the lack of wins against UNC and Duke that has always made me dislike Herb to some degree.
It's the fact that the main teams that we lose to OTHER than them are teams that should never even be CLOSE.
Seton Hall? Iowa? Georgia Tech? Wake Forest TWICE? Sure the first two made the tournament (and lost first round), but those are games that we SHOULD have won. We had the team to do it, but once things weren't going our way, we never adjusted.
Hell even Boston College. We shouldn't have lost to BC the second time we played them. If you can beat a team by 18 points, you have no excuse for losing to them the next time around. 4/6/2006 3:10:39 PM |

That's funny. For some reason, I remember Texas fans complaining about and wanting Mack Brown fired prior to this year because he couldn't beat Oklahoma. I also remember Ohio State firing their head football coach a couple of years back because he couldn't beat Michigan. Look what happened there. Maybe the same will happen for us in basketball, and quite possibly football.4/6/2006 3:13:40 PM |

Quote : | " From 1946 to 1964, Case-coached teams went 376-133 (.739), won six straight Southern Conference titles, four Atlantic Coast Conference crowns and seven Dixie Classics. Case himself was aptly rewarded, earning three ACC Coach of the Year awards in 1954, 1955 and 1958. Case's teams finished third in the 1947 NIT and third in the 1950 NCAA Tournament.
He was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame on May 3, 1982 and the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame in 1964 " |

ok, you go back and tell me when these ACC championships were...I know, but I want you to field this one.
best college player of all time, possibly. Is that REALLY a reason for someone to come coach here? because we, on a whim, were able to pull in an incredible athlete in 1972? I'd say no.
And as far as coaches, yeah, I'd say that's pretty outdated, too.
Face it, we ARE the red-headed stepchild.
and again, I'm sorry, but 20-50 year old feats are a little bit obsolete.

there are kids on here really trying to say we are relevant right now, and pinning our mediocrity solely on Herb Sendek.

These old championships dont matter, no.
But, our fans have always been around. They've been around in the good years, and they've suffered through the bad years. We're ready to get back to being good and exciting again. What better place to come coach than a place with enthusiastic fans?
Not that we're the best fans, but at least we'll be there and loud if we ever get back to the top.
This isnt like UNCC going out to hire the best coach in the nation. This is a former powerhouse trying to get back to the top. Who cares if we've sucked for 15 years....at least we've been good before.
