By saying I was in the same boat as him was not meant to offer any sort of implicit endorsement of the attitude he's taking towards a lot of people on this thread.

I have old racing pics from then though.....and basketball, before the bulls were the bulls. Note for everyone.....I did not like Jordan at UNC.......I hate that shit....its like the night you get drunk and did a fat chick....you do not want to remember it the next day

- i used to dance with mr wolf at halftime of basketball games
-both parents made it to albecerque(sp??) in 83
-my mother once rushed the floor when we beat unc and elbowed dean smith in the gut.
-she also told digger phelps shes hated him since 83 when she met him
-dad got to tell coach K good game standing next to him in a mens room after we beat them in the acc championship game
- we used to have a dart board with jon swarfords picture on it
-when my wolfpack club membership card comes in the mail it says ive been a member longer than ive been alive since they come out in summer and i was born in the fall.

sublime, i completely understand your sentiment. i too have been a fan since birth, with both parents graduates of ncsu, one sibling, an aunt and two uncles and three cousins. i have been a state fan through all the good times, though few and far between, and the bad times. these other kids don't know what it's like to grow up in the triangle, myself in apex, when 90% of the population pulls for unc or duke, because they hear they have good teams and those are the coolest looking shirts at walmart. i am proud of my family's ncsu heritage, and i'm glad to continue it. i take no greater pleasure than asking unc and duke fan's what their ties are too their respective team of choice, and them responding they have no connection, they just like them. fuck them, i have ten dollars, i could buy a unc or duke shirt too. keep the dream alive, i know i will.

as you might have seen from my first post in this thread from the first page, i didn't grow up a State

fan, but rather an ACC fan. i did root for them often though. i was born in 83 and have always had

a dislike for UNC for some reason (perhaps due to sibling rivalry, maybe it was the ugly color, i don't

know for sure), so perhaps in a way i was destined to become a State fan. no my brother never

went to UNC (he went straight to the working world, college wasn't for him), but he's been a fan of

them since well i can remember. so i don't hold it against him. he's one of the most diehard fans

you'll ever meet, even if it is for the wrong team. he was born in 76, so perhaps him seeing their 82

championship run solidified him as a permanent UNC guy. all i know is that it's always been him vs.

me, and i've always like college bball. i've got the last laugh though. i taught my 2 year old niece to

do the WOLF...PACK chant. she loves it, and i can tell it irritates him. I haven't had much

love for the NBA since the mid to late 90's. you can thank George Shinn for that. my family waited

in line for hours just to be some of the first to get tickets to the first Charlotte Hornet's game ever.

we loved that place. went to a fair amount of games and events there. since i played in the band in

my high school i was able to go to all of the graduations before mine. i remember Bob Knowles, the

beloved local CBS anchor who later died of a rare form of cancer, giving a great speech to my

graduating class. i did get to give one last farewell to that arena though this past summer when i

went to a concert there. it will be a long time before professional basketball is truly accepted back

in Charlotte. basketball is ingrained in our culture. i mean Coach K's annoucement to stay with

Duke, and not go to coach the Laker's made the main article on the front page of the News &

Observer the same day that Edwards was named John Kerry's running mate for crying out loud.

all Edwards had was some small blurb in the corner of the front page.

i will reiterate what sublime said about it being hard to grow up a NC State fan in this area. I was born in '83 to two alumni parents and as a toddler, I didn't know there was any other college other than NC State. When people talked about going to college, I thought they were talking about NC State. When I applied to colleges, I only applied to ONE: NC State.

Growing up, everyone else was a UNC/Dook fan back then...wearing an NC State shirt to school was asking for a put down, but I WORE IT ANYWAYS.

All the shit I got from UNC/Dook kids in school growing up means that I get to say whatever the hell I want to now. It also is justification for me to HATE both schools with GREAT VENGENCE and FURIOUS ANGER.

It also allows me to dream big and demand excellence. When we don't get that, I'm justified in complaining. So when I get tired of losing season after season, I will complain. Perspective, people...it's all about perspective.
