why are you being such a douche about this twista

no research papers are being written here

these reports are from inside sources that will probably never be named, texas is doing us a favor by not having a big "he is staying" presser, seems like this will go by rather quietly on the national media front, Barnes will get his big raise, and we will put our tail between our legs for about 24 hours then get back on the gas to try to find another coach

i dont even want barnes...i just think its funny how many trillions of threads there are about speculations on a new coach...and maybe if news 14 confirmed it you'd believe them too since they have never run fake business closings during snowstorms

Now, I think we should get Whitt, I'd rather have him then some no name mid-major guy.

If the premise is true than I agree with this statement. Even though I don't put much faith in WRAL.

Seems like somebody wanted to cool everyone down about the Barnes thing. Without him having to make a statement. We could potentially lose a lot of other coaches because nobody wants to be 2nd. Sometimes schools just throw out a bunch of names to confuse everyone then when the announcement is made they say "so-and-so was our first choice".

hahah now that Barnes is out (you all actually believed he was ever in?) we're gonna get some jackass coach...Lee has worked too much this past week, so he'll take the 1st easy option to go on some more vacation

^^^True, but I'm saying just take the State guy and maybe that will stir things up around here. (in a good way). He's done a good job at Wagner and Fordam turning things around. It would be hard to argue against him when people mention so and so from TAMU or George Mason etc...

From News and Observer, Published Friday 7th:

"According to Texas men's basketball sports information director Scott McConnell, there were no new developments regarding Barnes on Thursday.

McConnell said that he didn't anticipate any announcement before today, if then.

"I'm not sure if there would be any announcement, one way or the other," McConnell said. "But I'm confident that Rick is still happy here.""

From WRAL Apr 7th http://www.wral.com/sports/8517353/detail.html

"The search to replace Herb Sendek continues after N.C. State's first target to fill the vacancy said he's staying put. WRAL confirmed through four different sources Wednesday night that men's basketball coach Rick Barnes has decided to stay at the University of Texas."

From WRAL Apr 5th http://html.wral.com/sh/blogger/2006/04/tom-suiter-lots-of-speculation-in-nc.html

"But it will be a story until Texas says, "We have signed him to a new deal" or State says, "We've landed the big fish" Silence, sometimes, is not always golden, and it can mean many things."

From WRAL Apr 8th
"Rick Barnes is definately coming to State, holla at P-Nis for more info."

Does Rick Barnes need to whip it out and piss on a State logo and kick Lee Fowler and/or Tommy Burleson in the face for us to accept he isn't coming here. I mean I hope I'm wrong and I get trolled for this but christ, people..

I really just don't give a shit about Rick Barnes. He doesn't want to be here, so why the fuck should we want him here. Make sure that it is written down that he doesn't want to be here. He can fuckin' have Texas, it's a piece of shit state anyway.

Next! Step right up and be the next great disappointment for NC State fans!

^^Apparently until now it wasn't certain and that he was "seriously considering it".

So don't act like we were morons for hoping that he'd come all week. Cause the media is reporting it was a tough decision.

Its not that we shouldnt hope for Barnes....

but tracking flights and shit like that is a little absurd.

It may be in our best intrest to somewhat temper our expectations, at least for the sake of the new guy.

first of all, fuck you. second of all, i said questionable because there have been murmorings about his players and recruiting at two schools now. even if the umass thing wasn't his fault, it still doesn't look good on a resume. he may be the most innocent guy in the world, but there are a lot of people with doubts, so all i was saying is that for a school like state thats gotten a bad rap recently, his spotty record might not be the best solution

pretty irrelevant now but, here it is, from the hickory daily record.

Quote :
"HICKORY -- Rumors persist that Texas basketball coach Rick Barnes might take the reins at North Carolina State.
But the Hickory native isn't leaving. At least that's according to a pretty good source - his mom.

Mary Barnes said her son is content in the nice weather and supportive atmosphere of Austin, Texas.

"This is the happiest I'm seen him," she said in an interview this week from her northwest Hickory home. "He's said he would like to coach an ACC school, but he's not going to leave Texas to do it."

N.C. State is searching for a replacement for Herb Sendek, who took the head job at Arizona State earlier this week.

Barnes, 51, speaks to his mother weekly.

Mary Barnes presented several reasons why her son will turn down State.:

1. His best team is coming

She said Rick told her he expects to have his best team at Texas in 2006. Most basketball experts agree.

He has four starters returning, along with McDonald's All-America game co-MVP Kevin Durant coming next fall as a recruit.

2. Resources

Part of Texas' allure, Mary Barnes said, is the school's resources. Texas is one of the nation's largest schools, with an athletic budget to match.

He didn't have such power at his disposal when coaching at smaller schools Providence and Clemson.

3. Money

Barnes officially makes $1.3 million. His total income is close to $3 million, according to his mom.

And Texas is reportedly giving him a raise. Few schools could match his pay.

4. Austin

Rick and his family love Austin. He and wife Candy, also a Hickory native, have two children. Nick, his son, is a recent Texas graduate. Daughter Carley is a junior at the school.

5. Allergies

Maybe only a grandmother would mention this final reason.

Mary says both children suffer from allergy problems, but haven't been bothered by them in Texas.

Even though he misses North Carolina, Mom says her son found his dream job. Several schools have approached her in recent years to ask what it would take to snatch him from Austin.

She believes they're wasting their time.

"I don't know if any school that could take him away from Texas right now," she said. "None of them."

it is on topic.

Barnes prefers a supportive atmosphere (which may be a reason he is staying at Texas..and look at that, thats what this thread is about). We don't have that here thanks to a lot of our fans.

a supportive atmoshpere?

haha.

we average thouuusands more than texas did this year. and this is a year when we hated our coach and texas was having a great season. imagine if the majority of people actually embraced the coach here.

anyone who isn't a complete moron knows that football school wouldn't have half the supportive atmoshpere of a storied school on tobacco road.

unfortunately that tobacco road school will be 3rd or 4th on the chain for a while

something that is not going to promote a "supportive" feeling from the fans
