I'm only making $8/hr at my current job, but I'm calling up ol' Lee Fowler and Wendell H. Murphy and I'm sure by my next shift, I'll be making at least $12/hr. 4/12/2006 6:17:38 PM |

Today at work my boss was asking me what was going on at State and I told him:
"Boy I wish I could get interviewed for that job so that I could get wolfpacked."
He didn't even smile. 4/12/2006 6:43:05 PM |

What can it hurt seriously? Let's throw the money out there and see what happens.
Who does he lose from Nova? Allen Ray is gone. What about Foye, Lowry and Nardi?4/12/2006 8:50:10 PM |

I have no idea if we're pursuing Wright... if we are, and somehow land him, I'd go apeshit bananas with excitement... it just isn't going to happen.
I don't know for sure who we're talking to right now, but I'll say that it's the time (If we're not pursuing Wright) to set up interviews and find a coach out of a group as opposed to this "#1 Candidate homerun hire" we've been doing.
On that list: - Gillispie - Marshall - Haith - Brady (gulp) - Lavin (semi-gulp) -Turgeon ? (maybe?)
There's also some folks out there that an AD should find to interview (That's their job... I'm sure there's some good candidates that are interested we wouldn't think about... or even some we don't know who they are. That's what an AD does)
Of that list, I want Gillispie or Marshall. I cannot decide between the two. Gillispie has won on a bigger stage... but there's something about Marshall that makes me think he's going to be special.

i'd be happy with both, but with marshall's salary as low as it is i think he'd definitely come, and would be a better guy to offer 2nd.
i'm just really impressed with gillispie's ability to turn a team around so fast 4/12/2006 10:42:18 PM |

David Glenn chimed in with the latest on the NC State coaching search and relayed some notes. Now that John Calipari has signed a new contract at Memphis, the names of other coaches have flooded the market. Before we get to that, Calipari tells ESPN’s Andy Katz that his choice was based on Ol’ Roy and Coach K. Calipari was concerned he wouldn’t have enough of a shot at doing what Wolfpack officials want: consistently beating Duke and North Carolina.
Calipari is showing his serious lack of huevos and lack of character. He basically went Fred Smoot on Memphis and NC State. He used NC State to push Memphis into a bidding war and then completely disses the Wolfpack job. Calipari also admits that he doesn’t want to win with standards, and would rather go the easy route.
Moving on. AD Lee Fowler has gone underground, so information isn’t moving as freely as it was before. We can tell you that Villanova’s Jay Wright is out of the picture. The door is still open for Miami’s Frank Haith. Billy Gillispie of Texas A&M has more of a chance than LSU’s John Brady. There seems to be “mixed feelings” on Brady. I found it amusing that their AD said “if you want to pay $2 mil, go ahead and have him“. He won’t have to worry about that, Brady would not be offered anything near that.
Marquette’s Tom Crean is a name that has always been of interest. DG cleared up some confusion concerning what Crean gets paid. We know that he was paid $1.65 million in 2004-2005, but Marquette is a private school and it’s hard to nail down if that is a typical payout. Crean’s contract could have been loaded with bonuses that kicked in that year, but not in other years. " |

Makes total sense actually. Wright is from Marion, NC and many don't realize he was actually an assistant coach at UNC for 10 years before taking the Villanova job. 4/1/2021 11:00:13 PM |

He's the one candidate that worries me.
I could see him doing what he is at Nova but even better.
I have a feeling it will be him or at least he will get a call. 4/1/2021 11:06:51 PM |
