there's more evidence to support this than there is to support the claims that Barry Bonds is juicing. At least one person who told a congressional hearing that he didn't use steroids has tested positive since.

You can deny it all you want, but it's the reality of the situation. And I agree with everyone else that you're taking this bullshit way too seriously. Juiced up big swingers are the only thing that attracts fans anymore. Would you rather lose the entire sport in order to save the legacy of an alcoholic?

last time i checked no one outside of san francisco supports bonds*

not even MLB

and who cares if babe was an alcoholic, there are far more alcoholics in baseball history than there are steroids users

if nothing else, it makes his accomplishments all the more remarkable -- imagine what he would have done sober

moreover, alcoholism is a far different beast than steroid use, one is a nasty habit that makes you (at least in theory) less able to perform, the other is a performance-enhancing drug that has irrevocably tarnished the game

any comparison of babe's alcoholism to bonds' (or anyone else's) steroid use is ridiculous

yeah, alcohol makes people turn into fat blobs that strike out a lot and can't field the ball worth shit, yet people still idolize them. steroids actually make the game fun to watch, and we can't be having that, no sir.

i'm starting to realize you're one of those people who watch baseball just to see balls get knocked out of the yard

as amusing as that is, there are way more exciting and enjoyable things in the game

your opinion isn't worth shit, go watch some home run derby replays

that should keep you happy

actually, steroids do a hell of a lot more than allow people to hit homers. they make people run faster, throw harder, and heal quicker. it allows for top tier pitchers to be able to pitch again after 4 days, or for players to throw from the wall to home plate or steal more bases. I used to like watching Jose Conseco steal bases more than anything, and that wouldn't have happened without steroids. Hell, he probably wouldn't have made it out of the minors without juice.

maybe you ought to realize that all baseball players look like that by the end of their careers. they either end up with nagging injuries that finally take over, or they lose their metabolism and have trouble keeping their weight proportional.

steroids don't destroy your body. maybe you should read up on them instead of regurgitating ESPN and DARE bullshit.

"When the body experiences a build up of steroids in its system, conditions such as hypertension, high cholesterol, kidney disease, stunted growth, and heart damage are likely to occur. Women can experience irreversible deepening of the voice, shrinking of the breasts, menstrual irregularities, baldness and hair growth on other parts of the body, and genital swelling. Men can experience baldness, breast enlargement, sterility, shrinking of testicles and impotence. Steroids such as prednisone and other synthetic steroids, can cause a rise in blood sugar by blocking the effect of insulin. Over time, users can develop diabetes."

the part about women is true and is almost unavoidable. The shit about the negative side effects might have been true in the sixties and seventies when ancillary drugs weren't prevalent. Now all of that stuff can be hindered. Aromatase inhibitors and selective estrogen receptor modulators can combat the gynocomastia, hypertension, and high cholseterol. stunted growth is more of a myth than anything, and it doesn't apply to males much past the age of 20 because their growth plates have sealed. baldness can be prevented by DHT blockers such as finasteride and dutasteride. impotence and testicular shrinkage can be prevented by using HCG, or you can just leave it alone and use it as male birth control and start using HCG after your cycle to get everything working normally again. kidney problems are usually caused by shitty diet and not drinking enough water, and adding enough water to the diet alleviates that. as far as steroids blocking insulin, I've never heard of that outside of corticosteroids, and they actually waste muscle instead of building it.

The only way steroids destroy the body is by allowing the muscular frame to grow faster than the tendons do, which results in some people in chronic knee, elbow, back, and shoulder injuries. This is usually a result moreso of people using too much juice for too long, not just from using it. They never allow the rest of their body to catch up.

If steroids were so bad, they wouldn't be prescribed to aging men, HIV positive people, muscular dystrophy sufferers, etc.

yeah, I'm sure a government body knows what's best for the human body. Unless you want to take a look at current drug laws in America or the fucked up dietary guidelines specified in the food pyramid.

You don't know what you're talking about. Ruth had a .968 career fielding percentage. That's not gold glove winning, but it's not as bad as you'd make it out to be. Listening to you, he struck out 3 times a game while committing 4 errors.

Andruw Jones, 7 time gold glove winning center fielder, has a career .989 percentage. The difference between .968 and .989 isn't that much. It separates a great fielder from an average one, but Ruth wasn't as bad as you make him out to be.

So Bonds just wants to pass the GREATEST PLAYER OF ALL TIME on the homerun list. I guess I don't really blame him, but if he does pass Ruth, it's not like folks will forget about the Babe and remember him instead. Bonds actually said something to that effect once.

If you dispute the GREATEST PLAYER OF ALL TIME title that Babe Ruth holds, take a look at his pitching stats.

oh, and bonds comments about pedro gomez were great today...gomez has been hounding Bonds for the past two years, his only job is to break news on barry, I'd get a little sick of some dude putting his nose in my business every single day if I were him too

so are you claiming those pitchers are as good as the ones today? How come no one has batted over .400 in 65 years? because of hitting getting worse?

Those pitchers were used differently as ones are today. Those guys didn't have as much rest and pitched more innings than pitchers today. This is not to say that weren't as good as pitchers today, because they were on the level or better. It just means that because they pitched so much more, they got tired quicker and may not have had their best "stuff" as often because of it.

There might have been a few pitchers during that era that could have played today in some fashion, but I find it hard to claim that the best pitchers of that era would have compared to the greatest pitchers of this era. If so, then they would go against the grain of every other single athletic event in the history of sports. Try to think of one single sport that doesn't have better athletes today than it did half a century ago. Most of this is a result of the training getting better, diet and specialized exercise getting better, and state of the art equipment being around to help the player develop aspects of their game.

As far as the pitchers being overworked back then, you're right about that. coaches and trainers didn't understand the concepts of healing time and fatigue very well back then. It was similar to how training for powerlifting and olympic weightlifting has evolved. 50 years ago people lifted their event lifts twice a day every day. now most of the top competitors only train each movement on it's separate day, and only do it once a week. as a result, the amount of weight people are capable of lifting during meets now has almost doubled.

He said today that if he needs surgery he will retire.

Personally I think he is done.. not even going to pass Ruth.
