not necessarily. humanities professors research quite a bit as well. historians, socialogists, and others are usually paid pretty handsomely and conduct a shitton of research from getting grants.
just because they're not crunching numbers in a lab doesn't mean they don't do anything, and doesn't mean they make less.

Another option all together is just doing 4 to 8 years in the military in certain fields and sucking up the 17 to 30K you would make during that time period. Because you can easily make 180 to 220K plus while working to protect certain people from the "Evil Doer's."
Shit, you only have to work 7 to 9 months a year doing it!!!! 4/15/2006 9:34:35 AM |

Both of those are extremely competitive because of the salaries and hours.
It's good for me, because I don't want to go into either one.

yeah, professorship in the humanities is almost like a hustle. you're writing books on a field of study and assigning them to students (who, likely, will be the only ones to read them) who will eventually graduate, write books, and assign them to their students--and on and on and on.
with college enrollment rates going up and a lot of older professors starting to retire, the market's only getting bigger. the tricky part is finding new ways to analyze what's already been researched to death.4/15/2006 1:30:58 PM |

Retail pharmacists do actually make that much cash after a few years experience. It and anasthesiologist (sp? too lazy) are great for not going to med school and making a butt load. 4/15/2006 11:48:00 PM |
DaveOT All American 11945 Posts user info edit post |
^Retail pharmacists make $90k+ right out of school. It's because of the very high turnover rate.
But anesthesiologists actually do go to med school. You might be thinking of CNAs.

My dad hires people out of VGCC with an associate's degree, starts them out at the VA here in Durham at $42K/year, gives them a $1,000 bonus a month later and a $5K raise a year later. For a 2 year degree...$48,000. 4/16/2006 1:06:23 AM |

if you want to work in industry, there are very few positions for PharmDs. pharmacology is probably the best terminal degree for that: you'll end up making similar $ but with no debt after grad school and a better working environment. 4/16/2006 9:58:49 AM |
