his father, press maravich, was the head coach at nc state in 1966 (bookended by everett case and norm sloan). press maravich followed his son to coach lsu, and there are speculations about shadiness involving all that. oh well, atleast norm sloan won a championship for us.

If I'm not mistaken Pistols dad took the LSU job and told his son if he didnt come to play there he was disowning him.

Pete couldn't get into NC State. He would have gone here if he could have, and Press would have remained coach here if Pete had gotten in.

Press left a head coaching position at (South Carolina?) I believe so he could coach under Case for a few years with the understanding that he would take over the program after Case. Pistol wanted to go to State and play for his father. He didn't have near the academics the ACC required at that time

His father got pissed at NC State for not allowing him in. He left after 1 season (or rather 3/4ths of a season.. Case stepped down due to illness early on) for LSU so that he could coach his son.

There was nothing dirty about it... more of a "fuck you" to NC State administrators.
