Nemisis was an even numbered movie, and that blew. This new director will have needed to have at least watched an episode or somthing prior to shooting

see, i enjoyed nemisis and first contact because neither of htem felt like 2 hour episodes...
that's pretty much my only requirement from Star Trek movies, don't just present me with a 2 hour episode, give something more... 4/22/2006 10:18:21 AM |

First contact was dammed good, and in part because the villians werent some previously unknown race that supposedly is comprised of great warriors who cant shoot a ray gun for shit and we knew nothing about them until that point. They took the Romulus/Remus connection from mythology, said "oh, thats a neat turn of phrase" then packed a movie into it.
First Contact was easily the best of the 4 TNG movies 4/22/2006 2:00:57 PM |

actually, Romulus/Remus was established in the original series. they didn't invent it for the movie.
and yeah, it wasn't as good as it could have been, but it wasn't as bad as the ratings showed either... there were good parts to it... overall though it was slopped together horribly.4/22/2006 6:45:18 PM |

very poor attempt. it could have been so much better had the people in charge put some thought into plot/series consistancy before the movie was made. 4/23/2006 12:46:40 AM |

Christ, if they were able to do Spock, they can certainly do Data.
Remember, Nemesis follows the ST2 formula.
I also don't think an audience will really accept anyone other than Shatner/Nimoy playing Kirk/Spock.

I think they should do a movie set about 20 years after TNG ends, have the whole cast in the first scene, everyone could have the old person makeup on (except Marina Sirtis cause she looks old and like shit now anyways), and they could "hand off" to a new crew.
I really would like to see a plot about the underground of the Federation, the evil shit that happens and everyone turns a blind eye too. It would be a good reflection on our current government.
And have the new starship be able to land on a planet like Voyager could, and please for god's sake have it land on wesley crusher and have him go splat.
But seriously, I don't how the fuck they're going to save the franchise... 6/3/2006 9:39:58 PM |

Maybe, but that sounds too cliche and too predictable. If this series were to be done, make it so that nobody from the previous series has anything to do with it.
Quote : | "I really would like to see a plot about the underground of the Federation, the evil shit that happens and everyone turns a blind eye too. It would be a good reflection on our current government." |
This would be a good premise to start with. My only worry is that the parallels with our own government would be too obvious, and the show might become too political. On the other hand, it would be keeping with the Trek spirit in that Star Trek has always been largely about social commentary. However, each episode would need to consider both sides of an issue, and not suffer from the writers' own political biases.
Quote : | "And have the new starship be able to land on a planet like Voyager could" |
Nah, too gimicky and little actual substance. Besides, doesn't it make better sense to just use a shuttle or the transporters? But then again, there are many who would argue that a lot of pointless and senseless things have been acted out in the Star Trek universe.
Quote : | "please for god's sake have it land on wesley crusher and have him go splat." |
There are many who share this sentiment with you. This is the type of fan service that I could live with.
Quote : | "I don't how the fuck they're going to save the franchise." |
They aren't. Mike Wong of stardestroyer.net has convinced me that the franchise is dead and really just needs to cease and disappear for a good decade or so, to get it out of pop-culture. Then they can bring it back fresh. Realistically, though, this won't ever happen. There will always be hardcore die-hard fans who Paramount can always market it to, thus continuing the milking of a long-since dried-out cash cow.
