i'm a Bears fan, so I have nightmares about Steve Smith

however, we'll save that for another thread. this is a realistic thread about someone who should be looked at.

eh

I thought that was pretty good. I usually think I take it up a notch when I use the "strikethrough" feature. Guess not. I need more material though. What kind of offense does Steve Smith run????

Our coach needs to be able to beat Cave Spring more than 5.

Although I do like this "dunking and fast breaks" offense you speak of.

we were a sleeping giant at the time (pre-Redick)

ever since JJ led us to the state title, we've been tougher to beat

at that time though, we celebrated the 5-point loss as if it were a 20-point win

he talks too slow. almost methodical like a certain former coach of ours

we need a fast talker with a powerful voice (and if it's raspy, all the better)

my list of coaches

1) Herb (his buyout can't be too expensive)
2) PJ (Italian with lots of name recognition)
3) Smith (I think we know why)
4) no coach (save money til an A-lister is available)

i watched Antawn Jamison play in HS. You didn't need to coach shit. He was a beast on the floor with boys

I asked in PP chat for you and they put it this way... Smith might be able to land 5-star talent, but with the new ACC academic restrictions we need 4-math talent. Most of the top-notch talent coming out of Oak Hill are academically challenged.

watch the video. they don't take charity cases. they take b-ball players who they know will graduate and move on to quality universities

Oak Hill plays all-star, AAU type basketball. They win with great talent, not great coaching.

I live less than 20 miles from mouth of wilson, I go to 5-10 oak hill games a year. The style of ball they play WILL NOT work in the ACC.

He has such rediculous records because oak hill just has better players, it's a prep school. He won't get anything near what he gets there.

although if he came here, we might get an oak hill player once in a while. on the wall of their tiny, shitty gym, there is a jersey of every player who played for a D1 team, like 80-100 of them, not a damn one for NCSU.

like 10 for UNC and Duke.

ok, so you've been to a lot of OHA games

through your firsthand experiences, can you either deny or confirm that he's a good coach

I can confirm he is a good high school coach.

I guess he is a good basketball skills and in physical training coach.

but I have never really seen him do any in game adjustments, or ever need to.

out of going to probably 30-40 games, I think I have only seen them be challenged a few times, and they lost only once.

It's like you can't judge a coach at an ACC school based on his performance vs. 1-AA schools, it's the same deal here.

in your honest opinion, would starting a conversation w/ him be favorable to us?

i personally think he's just as good of a hire than Towe, Whitt, Haith, Marshall, Lutz, etc would be

I would go for Haith and Marshall first, then either smith or whitt. then towe. then some other high school coaches. then some girls middle school coaches. then Lutz.

I don't like Lutz, I don't know what it is, I just don't like that guy.

Oh, when I asked I wasn't even talking head coach... I merely asked in regards to an assistant position. Ther eis NO WAY Smith is ready for a head college job at the ACC level... not even close.

Does anyone remember Bob Wade at Maryland. He was the clown that they had before Gary Williams. He was a high school coach in the area that got the job, then they had so much scandal at Maryland that they stayed in the shitter for a long time.
