i'm just on here trying to have a reasonable discussion about the thoughts of our defense last year. i'm not the one out there talking out of my ass on national television.

i may not be an expert on football (and i never claimed to be), but i am a reasonable fan that can see numbers.

Irvin was always talking about taking proven players in college, rather than whoever just had an awesome combine. Since, you know, you could be guaranteed that you'd at least get some semblance of a football player.

Since both Mario and Manny were mainly drafted because of the ridiculous upside athletes of their caliber have, he was just pointing out that while that may be all well and good, the fact is that they played for a team that should be a whole lot better than it was if we really had 3 first round draft picks, and that that was a bit ridiculous.

yeah i feel you. but people make this argument that our defense was on the field the whole time. and that argument is counter intuitive b/c if they were "that" good they wouldnt be on the field the whole

time. every game should have been one of those battle of the defenses games, like we played in our bowl game.

teams force us to go 3 and out
we should have forced them to go 3 and out/ all day long

why the hell did we "drop the rope" is all im asking? if our defense was that damn good. i know our offense sucked, but we were supposed to have this incredible defense to make up for it!!!!

so Mario and Manny weren't proven college players? Mario set a couple of records while here. did he or did he not set the school record for TFL in a career in three years, here, and was first team All-ACC for two straight seasons.

i agree, we should have been better, but one can easily see why we lost all of those games after doing a little research or just actually watching our games, which Michael Irvin obviously did not.


i guess i should have noted that i actually thought that Houston should have drafted Bush, but i can see why they picked Mario.

being ranked a top 10 D for 2 straight years is a pretty good definition.

I think a good example of defense's frustration would be the Ohio State game last year.

They could not move the ball on us at all, but still we couldn't win. Every time we had the ball we would turn it over in our own territory. They would get it 5-6 yards in 3 downs, then their incredible kicker would hit a 50 yard field goal. Repeat.

nah the game against Ohio St 2 years ago we should have won, if it wasn't for freakish gift touchdown on that kickoff . Last years game we just lost because we had 0 offense.

we played teams like middle tenn st, eastern kentucky(<--those guys were ferocious) and barely beat
