"This reminds me of scholarship night at my high school.

I was middle class, had a 4.0, did about 30 activities during my high school career and worked 30 hours a week. I got nothing.

My best friend's parents were divorced, and her mom made next to nothing. Her dad however, paid very little in child support, but bestowed upon my friend a brand new Jetta, Abercrombie clothes, and spending cash galore. She had a 3.0, was involved in not one school activity, and didnt work.

She got a full ride to her school because her family (aka head of household mom) was so "poor"."
you could have just posted "i'm jealous that my friend has more stuff than me and less loans"

^Or I could have posted that as an example of how unfair the system is to those who work hard and unfortunately, don't have divorced parents in order to cry "i'm poor!" to get free shit they don't deserve.

Me think Mr. Woodfoot grew up in the ghetto and is trying to convince all us that he deserved the free ride he got.

you know there's a really simple solution to this that other states have done. instead of the Carolina Covenant and the Pack Promise, we could just do like California and Florida and have in-state students get free tuition to UNC System schools provided they have a 3.0 GPA in high school.

I fucking hate this. I live in Cary with a single blue-collar dad and didn't get any scholarships I applied for (I was eligible, oh believe me I was eligible). Instead, I should have stayed with my blue-collar mom in the rat-infested ghetto, taped a twenty to my chest and hoped for the best. God dammit.

btw, i failed out of school because I couldn't handle a job and classes.

don't blame the poor. blame your government for not taxing the rich more and blame the government for placing the burden on the middle class and not the rich.

I blame the government for not doing more with the money they do have. More taxes are not the answer. Less goddamn waste of what they do get is the answer.

ha, nope

mr. woodfoot is solid middle class, chose to go to an expensive private university, and will be paying back that experience for quite a while

ps
i notice nobody has any comments about the fact that you're all getting some portion of your education subsidized just by going to a public university

i mean, good for you folks, but you can shut the fuck up about subsidizing someone else's college career

you didn't look hard enough for scholarship opportunities, or you weren't willing to explore other schools

Mr. Woodfoot obviously hasn't had a lifetime of working for his money or else he would more outraged at where his money went. For the people who've worked 30-40 hrs a week while attending school full-time since high school, we're a little pissed to see that others get a free ride with no real effort at all.

well it is tax-payer money that pays for all that. i would rather my tax money being used to support higher education and benefitting our society then farthering a war that profits only Bush and his croonies
