That's not a first time. When I lived there, there was this guy randomly going around trying to open car doors and we called the RPD. They didn't show up until 45 minutes later, and the guy was long gone by then. And at the time, I do believe the police station was just right down the road at the Avent Ferry shopping center 5/5/2006 9:16:25 PM |

Haha. I've never called the cops in Wake/Raleigh, but in Harnett Co. it took about 25min for a sheriff to drive across the county, which I thought was reasonable. It didn't bother me at all, in fact. Just don't depend on them, and you won't be let down. 5/5/2006 10:30:14 PM |

lately cops have become nothing but extensions of the judicial system for generating revenue for the counties and municipalities....
it's a shame, since I have good friends whom are officers, but it seems to me that police officers are no longer out to serve the best interest of the public anymore, but to harass and create cash flow for the government that they serve
and the judicial system itself is no longer concerned with right and wrong or the rehabilitation of criminals but to create profit
and it's also sad that no one is innocent until proven guilty, but they are now guilty until you prove yourself innocent after numerous court dates and then not until you clear your record of charges that have been dropped or found not guilty... it's really sad but it's going to lead to something bad happening within this country, I just hope that my friends that happen to be in law enforcement have moved on to greater things than what they are currently doing

When they had the substation on avent ferry my neighbor walked on on an robber in her house (he knocked her down and ran out when she walked in). She said they were there in about two minutes flat. Of course this was in broad daylight and happened when the substation was like 4 blocks from here. They did not catch him that day but did in the next 48 hours and connected him with about 5 breakins. 5/7/2006 9:08:19 AM |

There is court precident for it yes. Whether any one individual cop will lay their life on the line for you is up to them, but the courts have ruled that they don't have to.5/7/2006 10:56:54 AM |

All I know is they were patrolling like a motherfucker last night on Kaplan. One cop stopped my neighbor walking back from getting a beer and asked her if she was ok. I dont know if they got a distress call or what. She could not have looked that fucked up, so he must have been trying to respond to a call. 5/7/2006 1:36:36 PM |

RPD is VERY VERY slow.... I have called before and it took an hour for them to arrive.... However, NCSU police is very fast from allt he encounters I have seen. In some cases they arrived within 2 minutes of the call. 5/7/2006 4:30:16 PM |

RPD was really fast to respond to a wreck I got in back in highschool (like five minutes or less), but then again there was a wake county deputy involved and he was the one who called it in (he was in his car, not cop car). Once during a ride along in fuquay, we were pulling some guy over for running a red light and got a call about a domestic disturbance on the side of 401. By the time he finished writing the ticket and got up there we couldn't find it. But then again people weren't pulling into the other lane to let us by even though the lights and siren was going, and they were barely going the speed limit. Thats pretty scary for your friend, I would have freaked out. 5/7/2006 4:55:59 PM |

If he's already left the house there is no rush for cops to do anything... not like there is ever going to be any closure to cases like that anyways.5/7/2006 11:05:35 PM |

Just to add another story to it, when I had bullets comming through my apartment window a little over a year ago, it took the cops 45 minutes to show up. And the sub station was 5 minutes down the road. I could have walked there faster. 5/8/2006 10:53:42 AM |

I don't think proximity to a police substation makes any difference. It's not like the fire department where they sit around waiting for a call and then jump in their car to go help. This is Raleigh, not Mayberry. kkthx. 5/8/2006 12:09:03 PM |

Most apartment places will rent to a police officer for substantially reduced rates (think 1/2 to 2/3 off,) but their contract with the officer is that he has very little responsibility to intervene unless he witnesses a serious crime taking place. The officers aren't there to take police reports after a crime occurs or to stop someone from speeding in the parking lot. I'd think if someone went and got one of the cops that lived there he would have intervened, but the police dispatchers aren't going to just call him on his home phone and tell him to go over to that apartment.
They are mostly there for presence (i.e. they have to park their police car there when they are off duty) and to intervene if they witness a serious crime taking place. Sounds like a pretty sweet deal to me.

Lake Park - Our neighbors and us get into a water balloon fight, we are the only ones living on an entire backside of a building. They go to the top and hit my roomates Jeep with a balloon and the alarm goes off, my roomate goes inside and turns off the alarm.. Not even 5 minutes go by when 2 RPD units fly down the parking lot and screetch to a stop. 2 more show up another 2 or 3 minutes later. I have a huge ass super soaker that holds almost a gallon of water around my neck and my roomate has other water guns on him... they handcuff me because some bitch heard a car alarm from the other building. (Which was on for about 30 seconds total) It was pretty ridiculous because it was obvious what happend and after we explained +showed that my roomate owned the Jeep I was leaned against the car for a couple minutes in handcuffs with a Huge supersoaker strapped to me..it was pretty funny actually. But the response time + amount of units was insane...
4 units in less than 10 mins for a short car alarm + paranoid call 5/8/2006 1:33:52 PM |

^*8....During the wait for the police to arrive we actually found a trail of where the guy who broke into his house went and found out where he lived...we called 911 again to tell them this but it still took forever for them to get there.. when the cops finally arrived they ended up arresting the guy and my neighbor got most of his stuff back... 5/8/2006 2:38:46 PM |
