yeah...looks like the last of the BYOB events has gone the way of lawn party, brent road, Luna's pizza, etc. Is there any place left to get a really cheap buzz?

Jacob,
We received your comments via MIXonline. The "no coolers" policy was a difficult decision for many reasons. Since the convention center construction necessitated our move to a new location, we had to make a number of adjustments and overall changes based on the new venue. ALIVE AFTER FIVE is now located on a city street (instead of the Civic Center Plaza) and the logistics and new liability issues are on a much larger scale. Because of the changes, we are working with our AAF partners to insure that beverages are available at several locations, at a reasonable price, and that concert goers will have the opportunity for multi-purchase (ie. buckets). The adjacent restaurants will also have full food and beverage menus available. These modifications are necessary in order to continue with the concert series. We appreciate your taking time to share your concerns. We hope we have fully responded to those issues, and that you enjoy your experience at ALIVE AFTER FIVE.

ACTUALLY NO IT DIDN'T BECAUSE OF......
1)SHITTY WEATHER
2)THE FIRE MARSHALLS NOT LETTING ANYONE IN ALL NIGHT.....
AFTER WAITING IN LINE IN THE RAIN TO GET INTO ONE OF THE BARS FOR LIKE 15 MINUTES AND GET IN THERE TO FIND IT EMPTY YOU WOULD PROBABLY GET PISSED AND LEAVE WHICH IS WHAT A BUNCH OF PEOPLE DID5/10/2006 4:41:10 PM |

shitty weather made more people go inside and order drinks as opposed to buying them outside?
the fire marshal doesn't let more people in once the place is at max capacity - which is when you typically would be able to make the most amount of money i'd imagine5/10/2006 4:43:55 PM |

i was simply explaining why the changes occured (straight from those who bought it out and are managing the events). i didnt do it.
not to mention they (who bought it out) had no choice ie it was impossible to let people bring in their own beer its on a street and just wasn't possible.. soo.... either no beer on the street or sell beer. they went with selling beer.
if you bought the contract and wanted to make a profit you'd do the same thing.
so dont get mad at me. sneak in mini bottles and flasks for all i care.
now i know most twwers are cheap mofos that are having heart attacks at the thought of paying a whooping $3 or $4 for a beer. but for the majority of people who attend these events and other such block parties its not going to hurt their wallets. so please stay at home on your computers and type away about how much it sucks and how unfair it is that things changed.

^^that has nothing to do with it. the fact of the matter is that they took a fun, FREE, event, and ruined it with the need to make a profit. why can't there be some events in the city that DON'T cost money from time to time? I spend a shitload of money at bars, so it's kinda nice when you can throw a six pack in a cooler and go hang out with some friends for cheap once in a while. But NOOOOOOO...they just couldn't resist assraping us when they were presented with the opportunity. fuck that. AA5 was the shit, now it's tainted.

but the people who bought it had no choice - it was either sell beer or dont allow beer on the street
blame it on WRAl for hosting it somewhere that doesnt allow the coolers deal. they're the ones who controlled it.
blame it on the city for the construction that stopped it from being held where it was before. 5/11/2006 3:42:07 PM |

devil's advocate here: a year or two of having it an a location where they sell beer and keeping it alive for one day moving it somewhere that will hopefully allow it to be a free event is better than letting it die. 5/11/2006 3:45:38 PM |

I'm not mad at your company or whoever bought the contract. if that was the only way they could do it, then that's cool I guess, but the fact remains that we had a sweet deal going and now it's gone. so really, it's not alive after five. it's just the same glenwood block party that they would have from time to time. AA5 is dead 5/11/2006 3:52:42 PM |
XCchik All American 9842 Posts user info edit post |
i agree it does suck i loved how it was. not that i had the chance to go to very many.. but the ones i went too i thought it was awesome that they let you bring in beer. i wish it could have stayed like that. perhaps after construction is done and this contract is up whoever buys it can host it like it was in past.
and i dont work for them. i did for a long time. and now my roommate, bf, and a few friends do. (so i'm still around there alot) i might be working some of the concerts for them to help out. (depending on my other 2 jobs) and i can't complain about making money and watching the concert. 5/11/2006 3:57:59 PM |

bullshit they had a choice, they could have easily had it somewhere where coolers were allowed, i know there are plenty of places that city would have allowed this to take place (if not this sicty is turning into a bunch of jewish bastards and it wont take long to drive people out of it), but it is all about profit, fuck these guys, they are a waste of space
i blame it on the city first and formost as i stated before, they are all idiots on teh council
but after that it goes right on down the line, could have been saved it but the potential dollar signs in their eyes took over
oh and this too

im pretty much blaming the city. i was against this mall project from the get-go, and it seems to have more negative ramifications all the time. so many businesses have closed due to decreased pedestrian traffic, and now aa5 is potentially ruined because of it.
ill probably go to check it out, but i dont have high hope.
im thinking predrink+flask, maybe buy a few there.
my problem is i dont much care for just beer. i would always bring a 6 of sparks, or premixed rum n cokes. buying either there will be $texas, or just not possible.
yet another great animal ruined in the quest for profits.

actually, it might be good where it is, even if the beer situation sucks.
in the past we always had to argue over who drove to the bars after. now we can just stay in glenwood south and not chance driving. plus then its convenient to crash at my buddy's place @ the dawson. i wont have to drive at all.
hmm.
