I think X3 will come out on top. Even Superman has a bigger fanbase if you consider the baby boomers.... they aren't exactly going to get all excited and rush out to watch it. The 12-35 year olds who grew up with the X-men are the ones who buy more movie tickets. That's domestically... I don't really have read on overseas, but I'd imagine Superman would be less popular.

I think people are really underestimating how popular Superman is, no matter how many times I explain why he sucks. Also, you're forgetting how most people are expecting X-3 to lick it good(I'll cop to it, even though the trailers have me back to being cautiously optimistic). So I think Superman will make more $texas.

I'm going to watch them both, but I'm more looking forward to X-3(The Beast is finally in a movie!), because Superman is such a lame character. So why am I watching Superman at all? Kevin Spacey as Lex Muthafuckin Luthor! Great villain who is entirely wasted on Superman.

THIS HAS TO DO WITH SUMMER MOVIE WATCHING TRENDS

1. kids drive repeat viewings - superman, while sure to be peppered with action, is going to be confusing to an 8 year old

2. x-men is now a proven franchise for the 21st century, x2 beat the return of DC's last marquee character - "batman begins" so there is a track record of an x-men movie beating a reimaging of a DC classic

3. superman likely has the longer runtime, which means less showings, which means less money

4. superman may actually be shunned by fans of the comic books for some of its changes

5. kevin spacey as lex luthor doesn't actually look that intriguing

6. superman returns changed the costume and actually managed to make it look MORE frooty; when the x-men changed their costumes it was to create "realism"

some reasons why x3 may not do as well as assumed

1. it opens a week after the da vinci code - if it's quality lives up to the buzz built on the controversy, it may hold the lead for a second week - if it does that, you can knock about 50+ million off x3's domestic tally

2. brett ratner

3. halle berry

4. fucking with the formula (bad jean, no scott, focusing on younger characters)

5. the mutant lineup fight might actually disappoint, and the commercials make it appear that is basically the make-or-break for the movie

superman is more popular than x-men. more people know about superman than they do about x-men.
i just think superman will do better at the box office....

however, if superman does not do better...i do think it will be very close.. i will probably see both of them so my money cancels out

and that left such a lifelong impression on me that i still feel chills whenever i hear john williams' music
