I'll laugh my ass off if they forbid him to wear the nasal strips, he runs, and still wins.

It will be interesting to see their decision on this. From what I understand from my brief reading they denied another possible triple crown winner in 2012 the exact same thing. Now that horse ended up not being able to race for another reason so it let them off the hook, so will see how this goes. I think the rules should be the same across the board either any horse can wear them in all races or no horses can wear them in any races.

I have also seen so many people saying it would be a mistake to run him when breeding rights will be worth more down the road than possible winnings now. My thoughts on that... who the fuck wants to pay money for breeding rights to a horse who has an obvious breathing problem and may die if he runs too far without strips?

Their decision is he can race with the nasal strips:

They'll probably get sued over that decision, but it makes them more money if he is to win the triple crown so...why not.

Put $5 down on Tonality or whatever the name of the horse that won was 30 seconds before the race. Won $40. Now I'm gonna go buy a sandwich and watch the rest of the US-Nigeria game.

Not bad.

That owner is pissed!! But he is right, its bullshit that you run 3 races and they come out with fresh horses in the last race.

Three races in five weeks is not a good argument for "my horse is tired."

I'm not saying the horse wasn't tired.

I'm saying 2.5 weeks of rest seems like plenty of time.

I teared up a bit afterwards. Great race. Race seemed slow, thought at first maybe everyone let off so they could rig a triple crown winner. Then come to find out that he had the 6th fastest time in Belmont history and had a shot at Secretariat's record if they had cut him loose earlier.

Good to know it can still be done, but who knows how long we'll wait for the next one.

He probably won't race again, but I'd love to see him in the Breeders Cup Classic. It's better for the sport if he races but it's better for the owners if he doesn't.

^,^^^ I thought the TV announcer, right after the Belmont, even said he'd race a couple more time and then his last race would be the Breeders' Cup.

Rumor is that the horse is a Cryptorchid and cant reproduce so...they're trying to get as much money through racing as they can.

County House wouldn't have even placed if not for Maximum Security making room for him

Didn't watch the race, but has this not happened before in this race? A winning (any?) horse being disqualified for impeding traffic?

Winning horse had never before been disqualified for a foul. Once one was disqualified for failing a drug test.

Seemed like an easy call to disqualify them to me. While the lead horse can take any linr they want, they can't just run into other horses, which is exactly what they did.

But it's not an easy call to give the win to County Horse, because he wouldn't have even been top 3 if not for Maximum Security changing lanes. It would be kind of like if you and your buddy played Call of Duty and your friend was hacking and got busted, and you were the beneficiary and got the win, even though you only were in position to win because of your cheating friend.

Also, it's a fucking horse. It's not like he knows the rules. Bullshit overturn imo.

also, Maximum Security would at least have some Triple Crown buzz going into the Preakness, had they not DQ'd him. Now there is pretty much zero chance of a Triple Crown horse already

The horse didn't go wide on it's own, the jockey did it intentionally. And they aren't going to/shouldn't change the order of the finish besides disqualifying the offender.

And it's not like playing COD with a friend because the horse who benefited had no relation to the offending one. If this had happened with say, 2 of Bob Baffert's horses then that would be an apt example (and would be a huge scandal)

did I miss the memo about that being the first jockey-less Kentucky Derby?

The point is, the horse who benefited the most from Maximum Security changing lanes was the horse that ended up winning. if Maximum Security had not changed lanes, the horse that ended up winning wouldn't have even finished top 3. I don't really care about MS getting DQ'd, but County Horse did not deserve to win the race.

there is pretty much no way in hell to know if he did or didn't, but ok

from everything I’ve read/heard from people who know horse racing, it was 100% the right call

it would’ve been the biggest tragedy in horse racing history had there been more of a collision
