i know plenty of people that will ride without helmets/half helmets when they're cruising around town and won't be going over 55

if this was the case with big ben, it makes it a little more understandable

also, if he t-boned the car, it was probably the cars fault (failure to yield right of way)

but i haven't read anything on this

well let's say he was driving down 10th street in pittsburgh in some vehicle with a great safety rating and somebody runs a red light or cuts in front of him and he gets hurt in the accident. obviously nobody would tell him he shouldn't be driving a car in the first place. like GiZZ said, we choose what level of risk we are willing to take. he's 24 years old for goodness sake! it's not like we read about him sexually assaulting women or getting caught with pot. let him have some fun.

i've never been of the mentality that when a few kids mess up the whole class gets punished. if you're taking the required precautions, you should be allowed to do what you want. all indications show (minus the helmet part) that he was being safe. speed, alcohol or drugs were never mentioned as factors in the crash.

motorcycles are dangerous, because driving in traffic in any sort of automobile is dangerous. motorcycles are inherently MORE dangerous than cars, because there's no buffer between you and the road. this is even more true if you're not wearing a helmet.

also: if there's a clause about not driving motorcycles in his contract, he should be punished financially by his team.

should he be allowed to ride a motorcycle? sure. is he a dumbass for doing so? of course.
