You don't get to control your players at all. It's all coaching and being able to watch plays unfold, and be frustrated when you realize that you can't go out there and do it right yourself.

When I read the review for this game I couldn't help but think that this is what they should have been working toward incorporating in the franchise mode in their already existing Madden game. Instead they decide to make an entire seperate game of it? I guess it's all about the money. Why sell one good game when they can split it up and sell you two?

yeah, that or they are incorporating it into the PS3 version but not the PS2 version, something wacky like that.

Like I said, it has some interesting parts/concepts

Pros:
1.the draft is badass, I really hope madden uses something like this. Kiper gives commentary audio commentary on ever pick, they throw up his "best players left on the board", you can get into arguments with your scouting director etc.

2.the training camp is really in depth, you have different drills on different days, you can practice certain plays to get your team more familiar with their assignments on those plays, can stop practice to talk to the players, tell them what to do on certain plays (example, always come back to the QB on this play instead of finishing your route) shit like that.

3.some neat features during the game, the time has a lot more real time to it, when you call a time out, you only have a certain amount of time to use during the time out and the time before the snap is a lot more realistic than in madden, you really have to hurry your ass up to do any defensive shifts etc.

4.the in game presentation is nice, has the ticker at the top which gives summaries of the last play, who was involved etc.

5. the scouting for draft players is cool, really detailed written reports for each player you select to scout

Cons:
1. although it looks like it uses the madden game engine they left out some shit that is really annoying... the names and/or numbers dont come up on the field, so its really hard to tell who is who sometimes.

2. camera angles are awkward, and you cant zoom out like you can on madden during the pre-hike portion... so if you want to see how the WR are lined up you have to go out to a really long shot or even the blimp shot, but then you are so far away you cant tell who is who.

3.the offseason is REALLY REALLLY slow and broken down way too much. The game starts in late Jan... after 4 hours, I was in March. It literally goes day by day by day, hour by hour. You have to do "office hours" where you cant do anything aside from look at data (your roster, other teams rosters, formations etc) twice a day. You can skip these, but you have to do it each time, you cant just say "skip all office hours". I mean, I LOVE the offseason stuff in Madden, love the GM stuff, trades, scouting etc, but good lord, they have it WAY too slow.

4. some of the menus are annoying as fuck too

I really wish they just threw in some of the features of this into the next madden, but this game isnt that good overall, too damn annoying

i was gettin 1600 kb/sec

this game seems more built for PC, i dunno how they are on ps2, but theres alot of little loading between hours (office, training, etc) but on PC its lighting fast, a second or 2, so it aint that big of a deal

plus you can do errything with the mouse or with the keyboard, free to jack off with the other hand if u so chose.

the commentary on draft picks were good, it talked about derrick morris' lack of motivation, hahah

won my first game 47-7 (bucs vs jets). drafted vince young at the 23rd pick, they were like "this could be rose bowl hype, or the best pick of the draft"

aj hawk was first pick for some reason, and the commentary they had on mario was pretty cool.

i wouldnt buy it tho, once NCAA07 comes out this shit is gonna be on the backburner forrealz

^ yeah, Hawk was the first on mine too... Bush went to the Lions at the 6th or 7th pick I think, Vince Young went to the Falcons oddly enough. Mario to the Packers.

I used KC and ended up getting Marcus Hudson in the 4th I think, his draft scouting was really really high, they kissed his ass, according to that, I had him the second best CB after Cromartie who went in the first.

I couldn't take it after a while so I mostly simmed to preseason game 1 with the bengals. lost 45-21, Palmer was 22/46 for 261 with 1 td and 5 INT, rudi had 2.1 yards/carry, and it wasn't that exciting.

saw a friend the other day...the game came up in conversation somehow...he basically thought it was the new Madden until i told him...so apparently EA's advertising, whether misleading or not, is working ok

my coaches suggested both mario williams and marcus hudson be upgraded to starters due to outperforming the current starters in practice

Not impressed.

The idea is good, but the offseason is just ridiculously boring. The "sideline strategy" thing is pretty pointless as they don't listen or do what you say anyways.

I'm coaching the Vikings.... and Culpepper sucks. Bad. I traded for a receiver for PRiv, but he sucks too

^they must all suck, I did a "coach now" with the bengals and palmer threw 5 ints. the passes weren't even close, even when he wasn't pressured

Made it through the first couple of preseason games, and it doesn't seem that bad so far.

All the "office hours" and meetings do drag on, though, unless you sim through a lot.

I kinda like this game, playing on PC, I don't think it is all that hard to skip over the crap you don't like and enjoy the practices and scouting and play calling. Sometimes meeting the goals they set for me is annoying because maybe I don't fucking want 5 running plays up to "money play" status, but I just simply don't meet them, and accept their bitching. They do change the gameplan around decisions I make in game, which is cool. I dunno, decent game for me, wish the graphics could be a bit nicer during games perhaps.
