Israel launched air strikes and sent troops and tanks into southern Lebanon Wednesday, after Hezbollah television said its guerrillas had abducted two Israeli soldiers along the border.

Israel has information that Hizbullah guerrillas who captured two Israeli soldiers are trying to transfer them to Iran, Foreign Ministry spokesman Mark Regev said.

Regev did not disclose the source of his information.

China will not go to war for Taiwan. It will end BADLY for both of them, as Taiwan will become a smoking crater, and then China would become a self-lighting glass parking lot.

I could see China going after Russia much sooner, a la Tom Clancy's theory in the Bear and The Dragon, and steaming into Siberia to gobble up the resources that the russkies have, not to mention the additional room. The little spit of land in the ocean just really is not worth the trouble to China, though they do not want to let them just leave outright.

I could see the Israeli crisis spiral into a fight with Syria that pulls Iran into it. If the hostages make it to Iran, I could see Israel doing a bombing of the nuclear facilities that Iran has or something as a sharp retaliation. The real question would be, WWID (what would Iran do)? They could attack Israel, yes, but part of the whole taking care of Iraq thing has a lot of our forces in position between Israel and Iran. Ground troops that rolled through Iraq would have to face our forces. Air units would have to fly through our airspace. I could see them trying a Scud/Taepodong style missile strike back at Israel, though probably only with conventional warheards, or maybe some chemical or biological agents. I think they would stick to conventional saying that it was an appropriate measure given a bombing of sovereign Iranian territory. I hope it doesn't get to that point, as I will have to buy a moped at that point to get to work, since gas would be $120/barrel, but its one strong possibility that could come from this.
