AICN give Beowulf insane reviews and basically says that it is the future of movies. I got my IMAX tickets pre-ordered about a week ago, and can hardly wait.

I'm undecided on this one. I loved the book though.

I think I might go just to see the 1-18-08/Cloverfield trailer.

So this sounds like its going to be in 3D in "select theaters", not just IMAX, from the press release I read. Anyone know if any local theaters are doing this in 3D? Id prefer to watch in 3D, but IMAX has like 5 good seats.

Ok, I called a few places, apparently North Hills will be showing in 3D

They're using the actual digital 3D projection tech? Cool.

yeah im kinda ready to see it in 3d. imax is great and everything but really should have about as many seats as my living room, i cant ever seem to get a decent one, the screen is so big if youre not dead center it kinda blows

the 3D is pretty cool in some scenes, but the overall movie wasn't that great imo....about 20 minutes too long.

Over here in Europe, they keep showing a trailer with Angelina naked as a jaybird every 10 minutes. Pretty racy stuff.

what THEY did for CGI may be weird, but CGI in general is definitely good enough to do this

I'm not sure if this has already been mentioned, but Beowulf is playing at the Raleigh Grande tonight (11/15/07) @ 9:30pm. $6.50 for students, don't forget the ID

saw it tonight and loved it. LOVED the animation and the entire scope of the CGI for the landscapes and scenery and the character models looked great in person in the theater, and especially in 3D. They used 3D the best I have ever seen in a movie. It was not cheesed up and used to throw stuff out at the crowd..in fact I think it only did that about 2 times in the entire movie. Instead it was used subtlety throughout the movie, creating a depth that added something to the movie, but did not distract at all.

The dragon scene was great. Epic way to kill a dragon thats for sure.

There were some liberties with the story, but Gaiman did a good job overall on the screenplay and the voice acting was superb.

DO NOT judge this movie on the lame trailers. I was very leery after seeing the trailers and absolutely loved the movie. Im not sure who put that trailer together, but they should be fired for driving possible viewers away..either that or this type of animation comes off terrible on a small scale like an online movie trailer (which i honestly think is true).

If you like Beowulf or epic stories in general go see this movie!

and just to state again, the graphics were amazing. they worked PERFECT for the movie. EXTREME detail in the animation, yet going for a 'fantasy realistic' look rather than 'realistic'...hard to explain but it fell perfectly between animation and real life...which gave it enough wiggle room so that nothing looked cheesy.

More online? Wow. What's the incentive? I suppose guaranteeing you a seat, but waiting a few days after opening night will do the same.

saw it in 3D, was pretty cool with the gfx, took a while to get focused with my eyes, but the movie decent overall

i was only disappointed there were no trailers at the beginning, no commercials or anything, the real reason i went was to see the new 1-18-08 trailer

Saw it today, thought it more or less sucked.

The dragon fight was cool, a couple of other scenes were cool, but it's basically on the scale of above average video game cut scenes.

the 3d was amazing once I got used to it.

All in all, I thought the movie was moderately entertaining. Some parts are pretty amusing, and both the Grendel and dragon fight sequences were a pleasure to watch.

saw it in imax 3d last weekend

I can't imagine watching it in 2D after the awesomeness that 3D was. Definitely worth the $12, one of the coolest movie theater experiences I've ever had.

Yeah, the audience was laughing at parts where, well, I'm not sure we were supposed to be laughing. I didn't like the CGI effect, though I went in with an open mind. I simply couldn't get past the fact that no one was real and Unferth never seemed quite right. I'd have liked it a lot better if it had been closer to 300 in graphics than to the Polar Express.

besides, if you say angelina looks hot in the movie....you're saying that a CGI character looks hot

and that's just kinda weird

but, i may end up seeing it with the family since we don't know of anything else to see other than Hitman...which I want to see

is there anything that would put off a semi-conservative mom or grandmother?

Well considering her CGI body is based off an accurate scan of her real body, it's not weird at all. I mean if that's your attitude then ever finding a picture of someone hot is weird too, since it's just a 2d image of their body; in the case of magazines it's also heavily airbrushed so it's not even accurate.

Finding photo-realistic CG images of real people, based on their actual bodies, hot is no less strange than thinking a picture of someone is hot. It's not like we're talking about anime pictures or something.
