Shaq forces double teams, he forces lineup adjustments, and he alters the opositions offensive and defensive gameplans. Having someone like that on a team with a fantastic scorer (like Dwade) is $$. They dont have to be on the court at the same time to reap the benefits

In Shaq's WORST year....he averaged 20, 9, and 2 a game. And people thought he sucked pretty bad...and about 95% of the players in the league would kill for those numbers.

Career numbers at 26 pts, 12 rebs, and 2.5 blks a game is pretty fucking dominant. Especially when you're hitting your field goals at a 60% clip and drawing a double team on about 90% of the times that you get the ball in the post. He has probably the best post game this league has seen in the past 20 years except for Hakeem's.

I'm not the biggest fan...but to say Shaq isn't one of the most dominant players this league has ever seen is just ridiculous.

Games 3 and 5 were unspectacular but he was unstoppable in Games 1,2,4. Malone was hurt so the Lakers were an absolute two man team. They double teamed Kobe starting at midcourt the whole game so he could only do so much... Slava Medvedenko and the like couldnt take advantage...

Penny Hardaway was first team ALL-NBA twice before age 25 WITH Shaq.

Penny was barely a blip on the radar post Shaq even when healthy. He had one good playoff series in the past ten years.

Kobe Bryant was a role player pre Shaq. With Shaq, Kobe won three championships. Without Shaq, Kobe has failed to make the playoffs once and collapsed in the playoffs despite the referees giving them a questionable 3-1 lead in the series by not giving Nash the same calls that any other star would have been given down the stretch...

Dwayne Wade showed flashes of brilliance pre Shaq as he helped the Heat advance to the 2nd round of the playoffs. He was unable to get off the bench in the Olympics. He blossomed into a superstar the season Shaq joined the Heat.


Yes I know there are some other factors... Penny did get injured a lot after Shaq left, Kobe was young pre Shaq and has a pretty average team post Shaq, Wade only played one season pre Shaq...


But this is not total coincidence. Shaq took a terrible Magic team to .500 as a ROOKIE. He then proceeded to make them Eastern Conference contenders and subsequent Champions. Quick, who is the only team to dethrone the Bulls with Jordan between 1991 and 1998? If you said "The Shaqs" then you are correct.

Shaq took a Lakers team that had been SWEPT out of the playoffs for consecutive seasons and instantly made them 3-peat. They were a Malone injury away from probably winning another championship in '04...

The Heat have sucked dick since they lost Alonzo Mourning. They sucked so bad that Riley retired so he woudln't screw up his career wiinning percentage anymore. They get Dwayne Wade, Lamar Odom, and Caron Butler and boom they win ONE playoff series. They proceed to trade two of those three guys for Shaq and instaneously they became the best team in the Eastern Conference. A D-Wade injury prevented them from winning the East in '05, but a healthy return in '06 gave them the East and the NBA title.

It's no coincidence that everywhere Shaq goes a team wins.

At one point Shaq was a very good defender, now he sucks on defense. At one point Shaq could score against the double teams, now he can't. At one point Shaq had an unstoppable half hook, now he doesn't.

Shaq is no longer DOMINANT. He is however still a great passer, nearly impossible to guard one on one, and good at getting other teams big men in foul trouble.

People make a huge deal about his FT% but who really cares.... shooting 50% from the FT line is the same thing as shooting 50% from 2 point FG's.... getting to the line a lot counts just as much as making them.... Being a 90% FT shooter isn't that big of a weapon if you only go 2-3 times a game.

Shaq is no longer dominant, but he is still one of the top ten players in the NBA, easily. You can easily make a case for Shaq being the most dominant player of all-time, and he's clearly one of the top three at the very least.
