I'm still trying to figure out why anyone would want to buy an external HD-DVD player that will only work for an Xbox 360. Isn't it the same, if not more limiting, than just buying a regular HD-DVD player? I'm assuming there is some substantial price/size difference?"

The add on will just the the actual drive and laser. All the hardware needed to decode the audio and video is already inside the Xbox, thus saving you tons of money over a standalone player.

"a Chinese newspaper is reporting that Sony's running into a brick wall with Blu-ray production. The paper says that production facilities have not been able to meet the demand for the diode that generates the blue laser that puts the blue in Blu-ray. Sony's own plants and those of Japan's Nichia Corp. have been having continued run-ins regarding supply shortcomings. This could not only delay production of Blu-ray DVD players, but also the PlayStation 3."

No kidding. Superman Returns has some of the same problems.
