I think Green would be just fine if it wasn't Weezer. There are some decent hooks, and as a 25-minute sugar album it works...but not as a Weezer album.

Maladroit has a few decent songs, but a few stinkers, too.

Make Believe is 90% shit.

From a band that made two essentially perfect rock albums that are completely different, I expect more and I keep getting less, and THAT is why people are pissed."

Okay I agree with that statement.

I think people are just starting to wise up and realize that they are a shitty band and completely devoid of any remarkable talent.

Also, nerds listen to Weezer. Gorillaz and Weezer are the two essential bands for nerds/dorks.

According to Pitchfork, Weezer is not breaking up.

To the =w= fans
What is up with all the crazy bad journalism drawn from Rivers interview? I can assure you that =w= is fully intact. I know this because I am in Weezer. The glaring proof that today's media is shallow reveals itself in this simple fact: not one person called me to ask my opinion. Which is cool cuz I would have made up some fantastic lie about becoming an Antarctic explorer"

Yeah, I realize that this information may have been posted earlier.

But now Pitchfork has reported it, and considering how everyone has a hard on for them, and the fact that the previous sources weren't the most credible, I decided to post the new story.

Is that okay with you?

Well, that's what we thought when Rivers said the band *was* breaking up. Evidently the band members can no longer be trusted.

But crappy internet news can.

Look, I don't know where the line is drawn, I was just posting what I thought was relevant information. And now it has been posted, and we can all put this ugly incident behind us.

They used to make quality, so this might've an impact in earlier years.

But, right now, it's like saying Blur might break up.

http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/article/news/43874-weezer-really-not-breaking-up-recording-new-album

Quote :
" In an attempt to atone for the mortal sin that was "Beverly Hills", Weezer have hopped back in the recording saddle with plans to have a new album out by this time next year. Seems all that breakup chatter last year did indeed amount to naught.

The news comes from a post yesterday on Weezer's official website, courtesy of dream date Rivers Cuomo himself-- oh excuse me, I mean "R-dawg", as he apparently wants to be known.

Writes R-dawg, in a message addressed to "Party-People": "Weezer is just polishing up a batch of songs for a recording session that is going to start at the beginning of July. This will be the final recording session for our 6th album which we aim to put out in the first half of 2008. We hope you are all having good times."

Thanks R. We were.

This album number six will be the follow-up to 2005's Make Believe, which we can only wish was just that.

In related news, that guy Matt Sharp, who used to be in Weezer back when they were good, has revived the Rentals. M-dawg and band plan to hit us with the Last Little Life EP on August 14; they're on tour now."

R-dawg???!!!???

For the win. Pinkerton was fantastic, and then it all went to shit because rivers couldn't handle people being critical of the new album and the comparisons between the first and second. The "biz" was upset that it didn't sound exactly like the blue album, but people who like music freaking loved it (I loved it).

weezer's genre is dead...they killed it with pinkerton. angst rock is long gone, and since we can't have it back, weezer in its true form cannot come back. and since we live in a society that wont let bands reinvent themselves, weezer will never be good.

same goes for smashing pumpkins.

i dono it depends, there are bands that have 'reinvented' themselves into something GOOD and thats fine. (heck weezer sort of reinvented themselves from the blue album to pinkterton). Codeseven is a great example of this. They got very popular on the college scene back in the day with their earlier stuff having a heavy sound. They came back with their next 2 albums sounding NOTHING at all like their early stuff but every single one of their CDs is solid.

http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/page/news/48311-rivers-cuomo-plays-in-celebrity-charity-soccer-game

Quote :
"It may seem slightly incongruous to imagine nerd king Rivers Cuomo of Weezer sliding into cleats and bicycle kicking his way onto a soccer field next to professional athletes, Carlos Mencia, and that "Extreme Makeover" guy with the frosted tips. But hey, charity makes people do funny things from time to time.

Cuomo took to the field at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California Saturday afternoon (January 26) for the Mia Hamm and Nomar Garciaparra Celebrity Soccer Challenge. Yep, the guy from Weezer. The one in the sweater, with the butterfly!

Still, score one for Team Geek, quite literally: According to ESPN.com, Cuomo netted his team's first goal. Rivers told ESPN, "It was a dream come true. Passing with [the L.A. Galaxy's] Landon Donovan and going against [former soccer pro] Mia Hamm -- it's just unreal. I was terrified, but I was so excited that the excitement overcame the terror."

Who's that funky dude staring back at you now, Rivers? It's all you, buddy! GOOOOOALLLLLL!!!

Cuomo's team was coached by the L.A. Dodgers' Garciaparra and also included skateboarding video game mogul/occasional skater Tony Hawk, actor Anthony LaPaglia, comedian Carlos Mencia, former pitcher Jim Abbott, and many others.

Alas, the ragtag bunch couldn't deliver the win, staying competitive throughout but losing late to a squad consisting of Hamm, Ty Pennington, Andy Samberg and Seth Meyers of "Saturday Night Live", baseball player Mike Lieberthal, actress Elisabeth Shue, actor Milo Ventimiglia, and others.

Win or lose, it was for a good cause, as proceeds from the event went to Children's Hospital Los Angeles via the Mia Hamm Foundation.

mostly agree about the first two albums being all that really mattered, they had some good b-sides and stuff that was on the blue deluxe edition

there were always one or two songs that I liked a lot in every subsequent album, but nothing like the first two

and beverly hills is total trash, dnl you can hardly comment in this thread if you only know say it ain't so, hash pipe, and that shit song

So this thread got me thinking. Knowing all of the b-sides, demos, and other recordings are out there (and ignoring the hundreds of demos Cuomo has recorded that have never been heard), could I make Weezer's career suck a little less? The answer I think is a definite yes. It still gets weak at the end, but I think their legacy would be a hell of a lot better if things had gone something like this. Most of these songs are from the appropriate time frames, with a little shifting every now and then.

1994 - The Blue Album - AS IS (41 minutes)

1996 - Souvenirs, Novelties, Party Tricks (40 minutes)
1. Ooh
2. Mykel and Carli
3. Lemonade
4. Chess
5. Mrs. Young
6. Souvenirs, Novelties, Party Tricks
7. Susanne
8. The Purification of Water
9. I Need Some Touch
10. Jamie
11. Lullaby for Wayne
12. Wanda (You're My Only Love)
13. Paperface

1998 - Pinkerton - AS IS (35 minutes)

2000 - Songs from the Black Hole (approx 34 minutes)
1. Blast Off!
2. Who You Callin' Bitch?
3. Oh Jonas
4. Please Remember
5. Come to My Pod
6. Oh No This is Not For Me
7. Superfriend
8. Superfriend (Reprise)
9. Waiting On You
10. She's Had A Girl
11. Dude, We're Finally Landing
12. Now I Finally See
13. I Just Threw Out the Love of My Dreams
14. Devotion
15. You Won't Get With Me Tonight
16. What Is This I Find?
17. Longtime Sunshine
18. Longtime Sunshine (Special Coda Mix)

2002 - Homie (34 minutes)
1. Don't Let Go
2. Autumn Jane
3. Photograph
4. Hey M' Darlin'
5. Sheila Can Do It
6. You Gave Your Love to Me Softly
7. Think About
8. Lover in the Snow
9. Sunshine O
10. Crazy One
11. The Prettiest Girl in the Whole Wide World

2005 - One Thousand Soviet Children Marching Toward the Sun (40 minutes)
1. Perfect Situation
2. We Go Together
3. Keep Fishin' (single version)
4. Slob
5. This is Such A Pity
6. The Damage in Your Heart
7. Everybody Wants A Chance to Feel All Alone
8. The Other Way
9. Pig
10. I Was Made For You
11. Haunt You Every Day

They invited Matt Sharp back. Twice. He declined and has also said he hasn't listened to the last 3 albums but if they sucked they would probably suck even if he was still there. I'm not sure I agree with that, but I do think that fans overblow Matt Sharp's contributions to those first two albums to a great degree.

it's possible, but I do think he added that quirkiness that has seemed so forced on the last few albums. That, and it's just easier to blame the absence of Matt Sharp then to admit that Weezer blew their load with the first two albums and will never be good again

My theory is that what the band has been missing without Sharp is someone to point out what is good and what sucks. It's become pretty clear that everyone in the band has shit taste in music, and Rivers especially has no idea what his best material is. So now you have people like Rick Rubin telling him what songs he should record and how he should approach music and whatnot. And then you've got the current bassist Scott Shriner, who seems like a pretty god damn cool guy, but really doesn't seem to know much about music and just wants to "rock". I feel like if Sharp was around maybe he would say "No, I'm not recording Beverly Hills because it sucks balls and you've written much better stuff." I'm probably completely wrong about this.
