I kinda agree with Frosh. Except the fact that no one should EVER refer to a Nicholas Cage movie as art.

NEVER.

The reason I wont' be seeing it is the fact that it looks like a gay nicholas cage movie, not to mention that we all know how it ends. Can anyone say Titanic?

I'm not going to see WTC- The Movie, because frankly I'm fucking tired of hearing about it and could care less about the towers.

I don't care how much money titanic made. Doesn't change the fact it was a gay movie.

Filmmakers don't care that it was a gay movie. Doesn't change the fact that it made money.

First off I will see this movie. Second off I really could care less if people think its too soon, nobody is putting a gun to your head to go see it. Its not like this movie was made last week, its been known that they were doing this movie since last October.

I will watch a movie about 9/11 when someone decides to tell the truth about what happened. The 9/11 Commission is BS.

In the context of this film, do you take issue with the fact that buildings collapsed on 9/11?

^^^ No, but I read an interview with the director (I think) and it was stated that a lot of emphasis was placed on TRUTH.

It has nothing to do with who carried out the attacks. It doesn't even show the planes hitting the buildings.

The movie is the human story about two people buried in the rubble.

Please take your ill-informed college age anti-establishment angst to another thread that is about the 9/11 commission report.

I'm ill-informed about the plot of this movie. I went back and found the article I was reading, and it turns out that it was about a different movie. In the article, they made reference to this Oliver Stone film. I got the two mixed up.

I was reading about a documentary called, "On Native Soil," that is supposed to tell the "truth" about what happened on 9/11.

But thank you for being an asshole anyway.

some of the money earned from the opening weekend will go to 9/11 groups

Quote :
"NEW YORK - "World Trade Center," Oliver Stone's movie about the rescue of two police officers from the towers on Sept. 11, will donate 10 percent of its opening weekend box office receipts to a ground zero memorial and three other Sept. 11-related charities.

The Paramount Pictures film, starring Nicolas Cage and Michael Pena as two police officers for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey who are trapped for hours in the rubble, opens Aug. 9 at more than 2,000 theaters nationwide.

Five percent of the box office proceeds from Aug. 9 through Aug. 13 will be donated to the World Trade Center Memorial Foundation, which is raising money to build a $510 million memorial to the 2001 terrorist attacks at the trade center site.

An additional 5 percent will be split equally between three charities: Tuesday's Children, a services organization for children who lost a parent on Sept. 11; The Tribute WTC Visitor Center, created by a Sept. 11 family group and set to open this summer across the street from ground zero; and the New York Police and Fire Widows' and Children's Benefit Fund.

I have no interest in watching this movie because it's just a bunch of hacks trying to cash in on a tragedy. Millions of people will pay money to see it because they feel they have a "duty" to the victims of the attacks.

I have seen the movie in its entirety...

and as a firefighter and someone who was impacted by 9/11 in more ways than one, I think it really brought the human element into view, what the families of the responders went through. Not only that but it was based on a true story, and quite frankly there was a great deal of the movie that hit home. Granted there were some parts of the movie that were a little dry I thought as a whole it was a good movie.

As for the Ladder 49 comparison, yes it has some similarity to it as far as flashbacks, etc... but in Ladder 49 there is more development of the character in the flashbacks, versus just thinking about loved ones.

I'd see it again and I will purchase it when released on DVD. Granted I'm not some high and mighty movie buff/reviewer, but I did like it and thought it was well put together.
