the Nazi's SS Office of Race, determined that if any ONE grandparent was jewish, then the person was a Jew for extermination. While the Jews themselves require that the mother be a Jew for the child to be a jew.

Hitler himself may have had a jewish grandmother. he was widely accused of being 1/4 jew by his political enemies at the time. Whether or not it's true, Hitler went to great lengths to conceal his family history.
