and this is the guy I've gotten as my starting QB in the second-to-last round of ESPN mock drafts.
if any of my actual drafts go anything like that, I'd be thrilled 8/6/2006 1:22:33 AM |

Who the hell cares you miserable douchebag!?!?!?!
This thread is about Philip Rivers, not a weather debate.
And yes, it is hot as SHIT in San Diego. I'll take the word of someone who lives there.

heard an interview with philip on the local sports radio station today from yesterday's training camp/fan day
he didn't really say anything we haven't already heard, but he was well spoken (as always) and saying all the right things (prepared like a starter while sitting the bench last 2yrs, learning from drew, smooth transition to being a leader on the team, etc)
LT and aj smith (the gm) were also on and they both said good things about him
the radio guy and most of the san diego media seem optimistic -- can't wait for his first start (on national tv!), i'm trying to get tickets to the game... 8/6/2006 7:47:49 PM |

What I like is that literally 2 weeks after they let Brees go, LT was on film saying "I wonder how many games we'll win (with Rivers at QB)" (or something to that extent) and now LT pretty much says they're not going to miss a beat.8/7/2006 12:29:36 AM |

Quote : | "Training-camp postcard: Chargers Posted: Wednesday August 9, 2006 6:07PM; Updated: Thursday August 10, 2006 12:46AM Where's Jeffri: San Diego, where the Chargers train at team headquarters. Here's the Drill 1. Donnie Edwards isn't shy about discussing his bitterness towards Chargers general manager A.J. Smith. After failing to get the Chargers to give him a contract extension this offseason, the linebacker has been searching for a trade over the last few months. He says his agent, Tom Condon, has found some willing suitors but Smith's high asking price -- a second-round pick, according to Edwards -- is killing interest. "I would've liked for things to be different here but they aren't," says Edwards, an 11-year veteran who has led San Diego in tackles in each of the last four years. "We had permission to seek a trade, we found some offers and now I'm ready to put this to rest. It's time for a change. [Smith] has made this a very difficult environment to work in and I'm ready to just go some place where I'm appreciated." 2. Pro Bowl tight end Antonio Gates says he's already adjusting to life with his new quarterback Philip Rivers. Gates was the favorite target of Rivers's predecessor, Drew Brees, and he's been working hard at developing chemistry with Rivers. In fact, Gates says that Rivers's height (at 6'5," he's five inches taller than Brees) will make it easer for Rivers to find Gates working over the middle. "I want him to know if things break down, he always knows where to find me," Gates says. 3. The left tackle position will be a huge question mark for this team as training camp progresses. With starter Roman Oben recovering from two offseason surgeries on his left foot, the Chargers might be forced to rely on Leander Jordan or second-round pick Marcus McNeil, a 6'7," 336-pounder out of Auburn. That's a precarious scenario for a team with an immobile quarterback entering his first season as a starter. 4. Rookie cornerback Antonio Cromartie is finding his way in training camp. Some critics viewed him as a reach when the Chargers selected him 19th overall in the first round of this year's draft -- particularly because a severe knee injury limited him to one start in his college career -- but the Chargers like what they've seen. "There have been flashes of brilliance and then there have been times when he's seen things he's never seen before," says head coach Marty Schottenheimer. "The good thing is that he has plenty of confidence and competitiveness. Those are the two things you need most at that position, along with a short memory." 5. Wide receiver Keenan McCardell is happy to see his good friend and former Jacksonville Jaguars teammate Jimmy Smith enjoying his recent retirement. That said, McCardell -- who is entering his 15th season -- has no interest in leaving the game any time soon. "Everybody is different," McCardell says. "I realize that was something Jimmy felt he had to do at this stage of his life, but I feel like I can still play a lot longer." Factoid With his next victory, Schottenheimer will move into seventh-place for most wins by an NFL head coach. He has 186 victories, which ties him with Chuck Knox. Fantasy Geek Note Keep an eye on Rivers. The Chargers say they aren't scaling back their offense because this is his first year as a starter. They believe that two years on the bench has given him enough time to learn the system. Camp Confidential Wide receiver Eric Parker learned a few tips from McCardell in a film study session earlier this week. McCardell showed old game film from his days in Jacksonville in order to teach Parker some of the finer points of route-running. Parker says he picked up some secrets about exploding out of his breaks and setting up defensive backs. He hopes those extra moves help him elevate his game after he produced a career-high 57 catches in 2005.
