It might be booooooring to a lot of folks. Hell, 10 years ago, not drinking was BOOOOORRRRIIIINNG.
Things change. I've done my fair share. Hell, my therapist says I did about seven other people's fair shares too.
I just enjoy being able to think clearly now. I don't get in nearly the trouble. 8/4/2006 8:55:43 PM |

Actually, quagmire, I stated Never date anyone that won't try something at least once. To which your dumbass, like every other motherfucking maggot on this board would, replied with completely extreme scenarios which obviously isn't what I meant but nonetheless a completely literally (ie: inability to extrapolate meaning from text) interpretation of what I wrote.
When you say I don't know how to defend myself it would be nice if you stated what position I was defending. 8/4/2006 9:03:33 PM |

then say what you mean instead of sounding like a prick...if what you meant to say "never date anyone that won't try something that i think is something they should try", then say it...because what you're actually saying is that your subjective viewpoint doesn't match their subjective viewpoint and because of that you don't think they're good enough...judging by your ass-talking, i would imagine that they're probably better off without you anyway8/4/2006 9:07:17 PM |

I respect anyones decision not to drink as long as its not on a moral "omg drinking is so wrong, and you are teh evil" platform. Many people who have alcoholism in their families abstain for good reason, people who have had problems with alcohol in the past stop drinking for good reason. 8/4/2006 9:08:20 PM |

I think what any rational person can understand is that you're trying to say:
"Never date anyone that won't try something at least once that you would try"
Now, I don't know much about quagmire02 -- maybe he really likes getting AIDS from six-year-olds during homosexual orgies -- maybe he doesn't, but if he's into that, I'd imagine he'd want a partner who would at least try it.
Don't let me judge you or anything here, but I have to say if when you think of "things you'd have a person try" include "sex with a six-year-old", I'd say you're at least a little fucked in the head, because that's pretty gross.

So instead of assuming people mean differently, you're going to assume they mean exactly what they say and go on a tirade about it because he left off a clause that should be common sense to anyone with half a brain?
You've got some interesting priorities.

I just think it's dumb that you obviously realized what he meant to write, so instead of helping to clarify what we all realize he meant, you decided to be a douche and talk about boy fucking and then constantly go off about it rather than going
"Dude, don't you mean X?"
then agreeing with him like you should. You're quite the internet badass for nitpicking what someone has written though.

Sounds like another would-be alcoholic that's picked just another vice to hold onto. 4. A huge pothead. Lucidity is the goal here. Not alternative ways to reach the same buzz goal. 5. Dumb as a rock. 'nuff said on that one. Of course, the dumb ones are usually the ones that drink like a fish." |
Hi.
Actually, I don't know that I qualify for the "doesn't drink" category, but I would classify my drinking as very seldom - rare. And if I do drink (average 1-2 times/month), it's only one if I'm out somewhere, maybe two if I'm at home. I could think of tons of underlying reasons why, but what it ultimately boils down to is that it's just not something I really like. That doesn't mean I don't go out to bars, tailgate, or hang out with people who do drink - I do all those things.
As far as alternatives, did this girl say she didn't like going out/the bar scene? Sure it might not be a good first date since it's not really a common interest, but that doesn't mean she's never going to go. I would suggest the art museum (if it's not too hot then the greenway), exploris, a casual lunch spot, tapas, bowling, book store, AA5/Downtown Live, Bull's Game, Regency Park...
Good luck dude.8/4/2006 9:29:50 PM |

I'm exiting this thread, but before I do let me give a run down how this would have played out if I stayed:
First off, I'd point out that anyone with any amount of intelligence (maybe even you) knows exactly what I meant with what I said. If you don't, thats really not my fault. If you don't have the ability to interpret anything outside of its strict literally meaning, then I'm truely sorry as you've stared in stone faced rage at any bit of satire you've read, ever.
Secondly, Stein and I would continue to hammer you on the basic premise that you're either at a TreeTwistah/Lokken level of stupidity, or you're a piss poor troll and we'd end up making you trip over your own words at the end of which you'd either say something so rediculously stupid that a response was not necessary or you'd play the troll card.
Now scamper off and run your e-game , like you usually do, on whatever remotely female text you see on this website. 8/4/2006 9:30:34 PM |

Wouldn't you rather date someone who stands by their convictions? If she's hell bent on not drinking, that doesn't mean she hasn't before. It just means that she chooses not to. I think that kind of decision is one that you need to respect if pursuing a relationship or even friendship with a person.8/4/2006 11:10:57 PM |

I don't drink, but that no way inhinges on my social life. I go to bars and parties with my friends and just get soda, it doesn't bother me in the least bit if everyone is hammered. Usually I don't mind being DD and everyone else likes it because they don't have to find a DD. You don't have to drink to have fun, but I would say that if you can't "tolerate" it, then it will make it difficult. 8/5/2006 5:43:11 PM |

Some chicks don't drink because of their meds, some people have non-HIV/AIDS autoimmune disorders and if I had either, I wouldn't be about to divulge this to a guy who's still getting to know me because it's none of his business. Yet.8/5/2006 5:56:54 PM |

Well minus the e-fight that took over half the thread, thanks for the suggestions people, especially begonias, I knew you were a keeper when I met you
The coffee shop thing, I think somebody mentioned the indie junk that gets associated with it, especially like at places like Cup o' Joes. At least in my experiences there, that holds true. Coffee shops just seem a little too trendy for me to go hang out, just my opinion. Kinda like something out of Friends. Moreover, while I could drink something besides coffee, I still won't be able to escape the fact that the whole place smells of coffee. When I said I hate the stuff, I also should have said that I don't particularly like the smell either. Not that I wouldn't date a coffee drinker or have the occassional meeting in Starbucks, but you get the picture.

While this got picked apart and analyzed by CSI:TWW, I'm a firm believer in what he said, applying it to things I wouldn't do. That's not to say I haven't been trying to do some ayahuasca while here in Brazil, I think altered-state of mind experiences are life experiences that are indeed worthwhile. But back on topic, I think most of the girls to which this thread would apply have tried alcohol. I know they don't like alcohol because, like I said, it's common for me to say to girls "We should get a drink sometime." Quick question for the females, do you consider it a bad thing when guys say this to you? I mean does it have connotations like "he probably drinks too much," "he just wants to get me drunk," or something of the like? Granted if a girl reads that far into my invitation I probably don't want to date her anyways, but I'm still curious
Gotta admit that I giggled on that one8/5/2006 7:45:14 PM |

Casual lunch man especially if your talking about a girl from class, it's so easy to just be like "hey lets get lunch on hillsbourgh street." It's cheap, not too much like a serious date, and if you don't like the broad you can cut your losses easily without having to suffer through a coffee shop or some shit like that. If it works out you can set up a more formal date, and avoid the friend zone.
btw, Did this girl say she didn't drink, but hinted at doing something else. Hopefully, she didn't lie about drinking to avoid hanging out with you. I guess you will find out when you hopefully invite this broad to lunch.
