either he's crazy or you misunderstood him. the MGIB is a $1200 investment that yields a $40,000+ return.8/15/2006 4:27:04 PM |

Hell yeah - if you go with some other enlistment options and get a good bonus you can make like $74k for school. 8/15/2006 6:36:26 PM |

Also, keep in mind that a lot of MOSs will have fairly hefty bonuses attached to them. If you go to the re-enlistment office and tell them what you want, (assignment, pay, etc) they will match it or come close to it more often than not. 8/15/2006 7:15:23 PM |

Hellz yeah! I'm in the National Guard, and that puts me into the "prior service" category, so if I transferred to active duty they'll give me all SORTS of stuff - money, choice of duty stations, special MOS-related schools, the works! (I almost did it when I was job-searching!) 8/15/2006 10:19:12 PM |

I think the Air Force does something where they give you a certain amount of money for school every year as long you are active duty. It covers almost everything. The Air Force is really big on their people going to school. Unless you have shitty work hours like me. 8/15/2006 11:24:25 PM |

i would say dont go active for perks... go because you believe its what you want to do and the perks are just that. as for the ptsd and all that jazz... there are risks involved, but it doesnt necessarily mean the military completely fucked anyone. its a different lifestyle, but its not horrendous. ive been in units that emphasized aggression and ive been involved in near death situations... i wont say they havent made an impression... but to think that my entire psyche was altered... i just dont see it. clearly, it affects everyone differently, but on the whole i wouldnt judge an entire institution like the military off of one case. im not saying its easy, nor fun... but not everyone is dodging rockets and bombs on a daily basis. its an experience... one i will never regret... and you can get a lot out of it too... just a matter of how much you want to apply to it. its not for everyone, including me... the biggest reason why im getting off of active duty is to persue other interests and to just stay home more regularly 8/16/2006 12:07:45 AM |
