read. then think... hmmm good thing I CANT take my water bottle on board. Thanks TSA!

There isn't an easy compromise. Americans want full access to everything or to do anything, yet we also require 100% protection. You can't have it both ways.

"I never want to recieve another SPAM or get any VIRUS on my computer, but you can't use any Anti-virus or anti-spam software to filter my packets..."

That could have been a nasty terror event. I'm glad they uncovered the plot and I didn't mind waiting in lines today at the airport (better than blowing up in a plane crash).

I"m really concerned about not being able to take a laptop as a carry on right now. Between the heat and being thrown around, you know that shit is going to be broke as a joke and there will be no way to get it fixed.

Wow what a bunch of limp wristed whiney bitches....

If you don't want to deal with the new security measures, don't fucking fly. I for one would be happy to have you off my plane you inpatient, thankless sacks of shit. You're always the ones complaining about shit and making a scene.

my sister was flying from NYC out here to california yesterday. she took the day off work, had to hire a car to drive her to the airport, waited for 3 hours to get through security and ended up missing her flight. what a huge waste of time and money.

yeah, that's what I was just blogging about--- I see a new marketing plan, airlines getting licenses with different companies and doing wholesale lotions/eye drops/drinks whatever to passengers, and probably upcharging from there. Charging overhead storage too- getting rid of most carry-on luggage and then charging people who do need it like people with diaper bags or misc.

there is no way that would ever happen in the near future - maybe 20+yrs down the road - too many people travel every day/week for that to happen - if i had to deal with that shit there is no way i'd travel every week for work - it's just not feasible

I could see selling "eye drops" on international flights, but who the hell can't live without toothpaste/makeup for half a day?

The ladyfriend is flying back from Austrailia as I write this, sans any electronic gear as a carry-on. That's going to be a long-ass flight when all you can do is stare at the ceiling. She's going to be a great mood when she ges back I'm sure.

they have movies and music on airplanes these days.

I doubt she'd be staring at anything.

Yeah, but the movies tend to suck. I think she'd rather just zone out to her IPOD or play on the laptop.

I'd go batshit crazy if I had to make that flight today.

^ Same here. The toiletries, okay, hassle, but not terrifically affecting *most* people's flight.

some news article off yahoo news talked about folks having to check BOOKS. Books. for fucks sake.
But as it is i'm plannin gon not flying again for a couple years till i'm allowed an mp3 player or laptop and dont have to worry about books getting taken from me. I'll drive.

Has anyone flown the past couple of days? I'm really concerned about the time. In my home airport there's an extra security check and they are saying the longest lines are to check in bags, not necessarily security.

That's a great sentiment if people can make that choice. Am I going to get a refund on my flight or a change fee waiver to allow myself more time? Nope.

The problem I personally have with this whole thing is that we spend billions of dollars overseas on people who don't even want or need us, but we don't take care of our own who may get put out from these measures. Let's take some of those dollars to make these transitions as non-intrusive as possible.

I don't demand 100% protection. We don't get it either, even with banning liquids, but that's beside the point. I think the specter of a few planes exploding every once in a while would really spice up my travel experience, don't you?

I like United.

I fly them almost everytime, unless I am flying International, in which case I prefer American.

American for domestic travel is crappy. They have the worst looking air hostesses and poorest customer service.

I mean really, it isn't the airlines responsibility to do jack for a customer anyways beyond "good customer service." The point I'm trying to make is that our federal dollars could be better spent to reduce the impact of changes like this.

And I've never had a problem with AirTran or Delta. And their hub is Atlanta which means more flight availability at a more reasonable price. I don't see anything wrong with that. Really, it has nothing to do with the point at all.

my flight out of chicago on friday was a breeze

i allowed myself a ton of time & ended up checking my bags, getting my boarding pass, going through security & sitting at my gate in 20min flat.

for a late friday afternoon in a major international airport-- thats making good time

also i noticed the flights boarded & deboarded MUCH faster. people had less carry on baggage so we were able to move faster

i'm in favor of 1 carry on per person

delta/united/american/northwest - any of the big airlines - non-budget ones - although southwest is arguably decent - airtrain however doesn't come close to that list

Airport security is a fucking joke. Banning liquids is god damned ridiculous. The whole taking off your shoes thing was idiotic as well. How much is it going to take before you people wake up and realize that we are living in a police state?

if you can, do curbside baggage check in...some airports(like Atlanta) dont allow it, but some airports(like Dallas-Fort Worth) do...i had to drop off my rental car in Dallas, and my coworker had a shitload of boxes to send home(been there for 5 months). If not for the curbside baggage checkin, I would of missed the flight...thank GOD this was pre this, or i would of missed my flight...(we had to go to a Fed Ex to ship her stuff). It was a breeze through security, the line to check in the luggage was a mile though(thus, glad i did the curbside). They were boarding right when i got to the gate, not too much time to spare.

I always have to get the pat down when i travel...since i have a bookbag, laptop, and usually something else....like i am getting arrested each time(also has to do with my one way ticket, i go to places for business for months at a time)
